  • Keep dislocating little finger during hard punches

Aright, this is probably a dumb question but if I work a heavy bag pretty good I seem to keep popping my little finger out of the socket with my right, I usually keep going but don’t want to totally screw it up, has anyone else run into this? I haven’t tried taping it yet, but I don't know if that will even help.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks..

first off your hitting the bag wrong. Your pinky shouldn't be coming into contact with the bag. At least not over and over again. If you start hitting the bag correctly then that should fix your dislocated pinky problem.

Should have put this in my last post. The part of your hand you should be stiking with is ideally the first two knuckles of your hand.

I usually do try to lead with top knuckles. However I should pay more attention, as I could be getting a bit sloppy towards the end of my routine.
Hopefully that will take care of it!

Do you wrap your hands, and if so, do you go between your knuckles with the wrap? Old Black Belt issues used to have seemingly endless discussions about what part of the hand to hit with, and surprisingly enough it was about 50/50 first two knuckles versus last 3 knuckles. If you hit a hook with your first two knuckles your odds of spraining your wrist increase. I think you might be making a loose fist and catching the joint of the pinkie on the bag. Or, maybe you are just holding your lip wrong

Haha like I said dumb question, ya it was me just getting sloppy , now that I’ve been trying to be more conscious about it, I haven’t popped it out yet! (knock on wood) No haven’t tried taping, nor have I seen too many do it, that’s why I was wondering if anyone does and if it makes any difference in general, other then a personal pref.

You should always wrap up your hands bud. The last thing you'd want is to slowly weaken the areas around your wrist.

              Just my two cents.

              good luck

I agree about wrapping your hands all the time, but unfortunately some bag gloves are too tight, and when you take them off to hold Thai pads the wraps pull loose. Still, I think you should always wrap. If you don't know how, Golden Leg PudPadNoy Worawoot demonstrates how to wrap on Basic Muay Thai, which I downloaded from Limewire. Ringside includes a video which has a wrapping method on it if you buy a certain amount of boxing gear, I do not remember the dollar amount for the inclusion. Master Chai shows on his first video a method of taping/wrapping that I used to use. Now I use looped wraps, and put my index finger through the loop. If your wraps are long enough you can go several times around the palm before protecting your thumb, wrapping your wrists, and going between your knuckles. I believe the long wraps (170") are called Mexican wraps.

Ya, that’s right I did see those somewhere. After looking around those don't look half bad.. Anyone else use them out there if so what do you think of them?
