  • Kickboxers fights off 5 drunks

By World Kickboxing Champion Tommy "Bee" Bottone (R)

On January 17th, 2003, I was in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA because one of my fighters Tarek Rached was fighting for a Middleweight title against Peter keljavick. While they had a good fight that my fighter won by decision, I did not know that there would be more action in the lobby much later that night.

I was actually out for the evening with some of Peter keljavick's training partners celebrating a good night for kickboxing at the Tropicana Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey (Left). When we returned to the hotel lobby late that evening we were talking and saying good night when we heard a women screaming. As we where looking for where the screams came from, no sooner than I could turn around and my friend and heavyweight kickboxer Fred "Iceman" Inozi was running around the corner to help out. By the time that I turned the corner Fred was already helping the girl and fighting with 5 young drunk guys in the hall. He was doing very good by himself but I of course helped him out. We used our experience as fighters to contend them enough that they started to run. Fred's 2 students then came and also helped to get them to run away.

Apparently these drunk guys would not take no for an answer and they where trying to get the young women to go to there room with them. I am happy the woman was not hurt and that we where able to help her when it was needed. Actually no one was hurt that badly and I think that this is due to our martial arts experience that we did just enough to stop there aggression which is what the law allows.

I have learned a lot in my many year in martial arts and the most important thing I have learned is to keep my cool when it counts. If these same guys would have ran into me before my martial arts training I actually would have not kept my cool and more than likely would be in Jail for my actions. I do not think that these drunk guys where aware of how serious there actions where and many young people can learn from there mistakes. I do not think that if they where sober they would have even thought of taken such actions. My point being that we all learned something from this situation. Lets hope that none of us are ever in this situation again.

those guys were attempting to commit rape. if u and ur friends werent there, those guys would be rapists. they pretty much are since they intended to commit it. people do make mistakes, but i personally think thats taking things way too far. even when im at my drunkest i wouldnt even think of trying to gang rape some chick. its not the booze, its the mentality of that person. i dont think a person who is down to gang rape chicks when he is a little tipsy is a good person sober either.

good post TY, demonstrable maturity shines thru here, imho.

'Keeping cool' under stress is a very good asset to posess and I, in a small way, applaud you for this.

I dont read it like that. They fought yet no one was hurt. The pretence that they somehow managed to use the exact amount of force required is nonsense - kickboxing is a striking art.

I read it that they did well to sand up to these morons, but they hardly fought particularly well. It was 5 onto 4, which isn't that uneven anyway.

Guys, you have a mistaken Identity. I am not the guy that wrote the article and therefore do not deserve the credit. I posted this one because I thought it showed a good example of how kickboxers (and other full contact fighters) aren't thugs and that those arts can work.

I'm sure their fighting experience is good to fend off thugs, but it is the lenient disposition of this guy that I find a bit disturbing considering they were attempting to rape a women.

People who commit rape often have mental disorders, they do not need their ribs being smashed into their lungs, killing someone solves nothing, they will have learnt from the encounter.

I have no concern for the would be rapists, but the welfare of the do-gooders concerns me. In a world where someone can be sued because a thief got hurt while breaking into their home, no one is safe. Considering these gentelmens career some jackass lawyer would be o' to happy to sue the piss out of these guys for hurting the would be rapists even though they were in the process of running a train on this poor girl. It's a sad state of affairs when good people can be considered criminals for kicking someone's ass that's commiting an actual crime.

I see what you mean uber. I'm sure the woman is greatfull and would be a key witness in the case if it ever came to fruition. I'm sure that woman is greatful that her safety was protected. Those kickboxers could probably get a decent lawyer on their own.

That law is designed to prevent you from slitting the throat or a rapist, yes rape is a horrible thing to do, and I've been the victim of attempted rape, but at the same point, you do not have the right, nor should you, to end somones life unless it truly is a matter of "kill or be killed"

"they will have learnt from the encounter"??? are you trying to get into the guiness book of records for the most stupid person on earth??

Killing helps with population control, at least when dealing with genuine scum that are totally beyond help.

Well this is just going to be where we differ, not much point in taking a debate further, because I'm extremely left wing, and from your response I guess your fairly right wing, as a result of nuclear personalities, it would take a massive event to change either one of our opinions, so theres not much point in us debating it.

Harry, i dont mean to be offensive to you, i am sorry if that is how i came across.
No i am not any wing, in fact i am categorically apolitical. i just feel strongly about certain types of crime, I would agree with where you are coming from with a wide variety of other crimes but not
                              1)Rape
2)anything to do with hurting kids

the above type of crimes to my mind do justify murder as an efficient and non costly method of ridding society of such offenders, you see, they are particularly creepy types of crime and sending them to jail only costs more.
                              regards
