  • Beginner at Muay Thai any advice would be great!!

Hey everyone i'm new to the forum as well as a beginner in Muay Thai. I was hoping if anyone out there could give me some advice on training and conditioning when not in class. I'm a consultant so i tend to travel on business quite a bit and I don't want to be stuck at beginner level everytime i come back to the gym. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

P.S. How should i train with weights while practicing MT? Thanks again!

well u can always practice shadow boxing anytime u want. it will build ur techniques, and footwork and balance and other things.

also with weights, look at my post here http://www.defend.net/deluxeforums/s...ad.php?t=13280
llifting weights is a waste of time if u arent doing it right.

i agree with emptyness above, and would like to add, Skipping!, I would go with weight training first and foremost but do plenty of skipping (rope work), its a real pain but once you get into it you can get pretty flash and cool with fast and fancy techniques (takes a few months), never underestimate skipping as it builds cardio fitness as well as co-ordination.
      you'll see.

Thanks Guys for your advice! I agree quite completely with the whole skipping process it's taking me a while to grasp! How long should i practice with the jump rope though? My reason for asking is due to a minor patellar tendon injury(jumper's knee) that i acquired while practicing Shaolin. I don't want to aggreviate that injury and be out of practice indefinitly. Thanks again in advance!

          infinite,
i have to do a minimum of 3 rounds of skipping purely as a warm up but if skipping at home for a spot of cardio then min 20 mins.......

forgot to add above, your achilles tendons will be sore as a bitch hoe, but they do adjust quite quick, and when you start being a great big tough SOB, you'll hardly notice

If you train really hard, have all your musculature surgically removed and dress like Dolly Parton, you could end up as tough as HuSanYan himself.
