  • Why is Muay Thai so effective?

Muay Thai is one of the few arts out there that allows full-contact use of elbows and knees, and which uses low kicks against the legs. This leads me to wonder--is Muay Thai good because of its techniques (IE how its moves work), or because it is simply able to use more weapons and kicks at a different level? In other words, if other systems simply aimed their kicks lower and were also allowed to use elbows and knees, would they have similar performance to Muay Thai? Or are there other characteristics that make Muay Thai so effective?

Serious muay thai fighters are monsters. They emphasize conditioning, live training through hard drills and sparring and some mean weapons. The result: a fighter who can hit freaken hard at a lot of different targets and take a pretty good hit as well.

I take it you've never trained in muay thai

If not, you should give it a go.

I personally believe the one and only thing that sets apart muay thai is there conditioning. They condition harder then most professional athletes.

after training in muay thai/boxing for about 7-8 months now, my cardio endurance has gone through the roof. i can go round after round and still not be winded at all. a couple weeks ago i sparred hard for 1 hour str8 with no breaks at all with many different partners. i didnt think i would be able to do so, but i did and it was fine. muay thai and western boxing took my fitness to a new level.

I'm sorry, but if thats the case you are not fighting hard enough. and you should be panting at the end of every round, if you arent then you didnt try hard enough. simple as that. when you are no longer being physically pushed to your limit then its a sign that you arent putting enough in.

Why is Muay Thai so effective?

Because they don't fook about with mysterious training methods that supposedly magically transform them into supermen. No forms, no chi and no bull shit. If something doesn't work they get hurt. So they don't do it anymore. If something does they win. So they do that more.

It is as simple as that.

Thai Bri hit the nail on the head. Muay Thai trains in the techniques that have been PROVEN to work in the ring, and they train with them hard & realistically.

Besides that, their conditioning regimen is more intense than many other sports.

Theres no real secret, they just train harder and more realistically than others....

I dont think forms or chi is a waste of time, some people enjoy doing all that stuff. Thus, it's not b.s. unless some one trie's to use it as pure fighting technique's than the art itself. It's the artist that make's difference, some one could be naturally gifted and kick ass with southern eagle claw, dragon boxing or w/e

Unusual but, good post Thai Bri.
I don’t know much about Mauy Thai but what makes it so effective is its 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.
