    Age

In my humble opinion, the sooner you start the better. I've got a couple of students that are 16, and I'm even teaching some 12 year olds. The 12 year olds take a little more work to keep their attention, but 15 would be perfect. As far as competition goes, that is up to you and your instructor. As long as you both feel that you are ready to compete, then go for it.

I started training about then...had my first fight at 17. Still...if anything, it's a little old. Thai boxers in thailand compete starting at, like, 13...and do so until they're in their late twenties and then retire...or become trainers.
