thinking about re-locating to SLC??

I am contemplating a possible move to the SLC, Utah area. Anyone out there in that area training in Muay Thai/JKD/western boxing or FMA's? I would be really interested to hear from you if so, and get your take on the area and training.

I don't know if Kalista Academy is still around... The last time I saw Khru Will was a few months ago, and he'd moved back, I guess, from Cali. He was teaching seminars at Khru Brian Yamasaki and Coach Brandon Kaiser's gym (Mushin) up in Bountiful, and also training some fighters out at Pedro Sauer's Jiu Jitsu place.

Khru Bernales is the unreal. Unbelieveably cool. Brian and Brandon are also incredibly awesome. Brandon just recently took a title at a local NHB thing (check out ucombat.com) and Brian is one of the best technicians I know (aside from Khru Bernales and Khru Sakasem) , excellent instructor for both stand-up and ground.

Mushin was an affiliate school of Kalista....and if you hook up with Brian and Brandon over there, I'm positive you'll have ample chance to meet and train with Khru Will.

Anyway it goes... PM me if you're coming in to SLC to stay...I'll hook you up with them if you can't get ahold of them.

I don't know Khru Will, but I have met and workout along side Khru Brian Yamasaki, at fight camp in Oregon, and he is a great guy. You cannot go wrong by hooking with him, or any of the guys Garland has mentioned.

Who are you by the way. Are you going to Thai Camp this year (2005)? Hope so. I just bought my airline ticket today and I can't stop grinnin.

Kalista is still up and running but you should call about the location.

I would recommend Khru Will Bernales to anyone. He is a certified instructor in JKD and FMA under Guro Dan Inosanto, he is a certified instructor in TBA Muay Thai under Ajarn Surachai Sirisute, he is a Black Belt in Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Pedro Sauer and he's one of those guys that will go to any lengths to help you exceed your goals in the martial arts.

Hey, sorry about the title, I thought you already tested. At any rate, I know you will be successful when you do. I was there at Oregon 2 years ago, I had 2 of my students there, the one was Carol, about 41 yrs old, thin, and had a very distinguishable, yet annoying laugh, that sounded like a sick Hyena or something. If you had the pleasure (or not) of hearing her laugh you would remember us. Greg Nelson was there, wiht his wife and boy, and Greg taught the clinch on our last day. I am trying to think of who was there that would help to identify me...hmm. Anyway, no, I can't go this year either...I am bummed! I wanted to last year and could not swing it, this year we bought a new building for our school (beginning our 3rd yr) so I am still finishing remodeling and have my team preparing for fights this summer. BUT, next year I am going to make every effort to make it.


When I went in 2003 I had a blast. Met alot of great people, you being one of them. IF you check out my website, maybe the face will ring a bell, who knows.

I remember Greg Nelson teaching clinch from his chair in 2003 and doing a great job of it. Last year he was up and demonstrating - completely different body.

I thought the best part of that year was the drumming during that last afternoon...

OH man, the drumming was KICK ASS!! I have a pic of Guro Dan, Ajarn Chai, Dwight Woods, and someone else playing. That was so cool.

Yea, I remember Greg teaching from his chair and getting up once in a while to do hands on, he did with me the last day, and even in the shape he was in, I still felt like a rag doll in his control....incredible.

Remember Mateo (I thinkit was Mateo) doing Capoiera to the drums? Cool stuff! Man, I am really bummed now that I'm not going, gotta make it next year for sure.

Hello Khru Pete.

Of course I remember you now that I can put a face with the name. I remember you scaring me with all those muscles of yours. heh. That was fun, I remember getting to go some timing sparrin rounds together. I learned a lot.

2003 was my last year as well. It took the birth of my first born son to keep me out, but this year it's all systems go. I'm thinking about trying to sneak a fight or two in before the camp but I don't want to get injured. Especially now that I've got my plane ticket.

Your school looks rockin. Hope all goes well with the renovations.

Oh, and the only thing I can remember is Mateo putting a Kao Loy up in my Jamook.
