I havn't ever seen a bruce lee movie. But I did see Ong-Bak. Well, since bruce is gone, someone needs to attempt to take his place. Tony jaa is all that's really stepping up to the plate. So I guess they call him that by default?

Why did you post this twice with just a small change? Why not just edit the other one or this one, so it is only one thread? OH, I forgot, 'cause you are a freakin' IDIOT.

next bruce lee, no. But the guy is amazaing. Not only is he a vicious fighter, he has taken gymnastics and has incorporated that training with his Muay Thai.

Did u see him run across thsoe guys shoulders easily? Wut about when he slide underneath the car while doing the splits? Man, Jackie Chan has nothign on him.

But i'll tell u one thing, he NEEDS to learn how to speak english or he will not have a Hollywood career. Ong Bak really tanked at the box office and pple are drawn to Jackie Chan more than serious actors like Jet Li(althoguh Jet Li is catchign up a little with movies with DMX etc...) and Tony Jaa b/c he has a braoder audience ranging from kids, women to men. People like his slapstick style martial arts.

Tony Jaa like Bruce lee...yes and no.

Yes: he broke into MA movies like Bruce Lee did, his first movie was a big success and is something very different from what is around-although Lee did more than that, he revolutioned MA movies. And martial arts as well.
Like Lee, Jaa is like a "hero" in his country-although, from what I have read, Lee was more popular.

No: different way of fighting in the movies, Lee uses more direct techniques and he is faster and more powerful. Jaa mixes straight-forward techniques with very acrobatic moves. Lee expressed his philosophy in his later movies, he tried to "educate" his audience and trasmit a message.
Tony Jaa shows the true thai martial arts and their effectiveness, some buddhist way of thinking can be seen at times.

And in one of his first interviews Jaa said the director of Ong-Bak was thinking about Enter the Dragon and did the same in his movie: both actors show stick techniques in a cave and the use of lights in both scenes is low. It was a sort of a homage to Lee. And Jaa himself said there cannot be any comparison to Lee, what Lee did is simply unique.
That was after Ong-Bak had just been released in France, on Mad Movies magazine.

Dear lord, there is no comparison, Tony Jaa makes bruce look like an amateur. ON SCREEN. I am not even touching ability to fight in real life. Tony Jaa makes martial arts look 10 times more dynamic and exciting then Bruce Lee ever did.

maybe, but give me some rope tied to the ceiling, add some special effects and I'll fly through the air doing 10 roundhouse kicks per second...but what does that do?

Like someone previously said, Bruce Lee was trying to educate people through his movies, entertainment was secondary.

WTF... I'm not deliberately trying to be rude, but I gotta ask, if you dont know ANYTHING about what you are talking about then why post? Did you even WATCH Tony Jaas movie ONG BAK? The reason Tony Jaa is getting so much credit and publicity is because he is doing incredible things with his body and NEVER uses a wire or special effects, and most of the choreography for the fight scenes are heavy contact, which is not common in martial arts films. He doesnt jump in the air and kick 10 times, he doesnt use a wire and the only special effects I can remember is when they set Tonys LEGS ON FIRE which was a pretty cool idea.... why do you post things that are totally untrue?

He blew Bruce Lee away, he blew Jet Li away, all this means is that the bar has been raised and future action stars will be way more highly skilled.

He blew no one away, he is just doing his own stuff and does it pretty well.
Jackie Chan did more than him in my opinion, and Tony Jaa can be considered
a sort of "disciple". He is skilled that's for sure, both in acrobatics and thai martial arts. BUT no comparison with Bruce Lee, and I am not mystifying him.
Look, Lee was just pure power. He could blow you away with a stare, pure fighting spirit: he was not just acting-you can see he was expressing himself through his movies. Just like he did with his writings and MA exhibitions.
Everyone knows what Lee went through during the shootings of his movies-fights, challenges and accidents-and also throughout his life. And what about all that he did for martial arts? MA wouldn't be what they are now if it wasn't for him. Philosophy, technique, constant innovation and research, that was Bruce Lee. Always working to be better, to make things better, and then transmitting his conclusions to others. Lee wasn't trying to raise the bar in movies, he was just trying to prove himself and better himself to show and transmit something to others, just like he did with all his other works.
And again, Lee revolutioned martial arts movies and this is a fact. And there are plenty of believable witnesses, who now are respected martial artists and human beings, that proved all this.
Tony Jaa is bringing fresh air to MA movies, after Jackie Chan and Jet Li there is only him. He does the job really well and we cannot wait to see Tom Yum Goong! But no comparison with Bruce Lee, he is on another planet in my opinion.

I do not beleive in nor hold the same respect for Bruce Lee as you so I'll never understand your opinion. I guess its kind of like religion. From a physical capability perspective, Tony is simply more skilled than Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee or Jet Li. As for fighting ability or on screen presence or any other DEEPER ideals I couldnt and wont comment. I do gymnastics, I've studied wushu a bit and TKD extensviely, I do all the flashy stylized kicks you see on screen and I know what is difficult and what is not. Tony Jaa can do more dynamic physical techniques with his body than the others and it looks great on film. All that other stuff you are talking about really isnt relevant to what I am talking about. Action movies are about the "WOW" factor, and Tony gets more wows. Anything deeper is thinking too hard about a genre of film that no one takes seriously heh. The day they make a "Lord of the Rings" of action movies is the day we can talk seriously about martial arts flics.

Let's face it, Buce is dead. There is nothing anyone can do about that. While people may try to be like him, or have his impact there will never be anyone on the same level as him, ever! There is a special group of individuals from all things in the world he falls into. He is sort of like Hendrix, but for MA. He was so far ahead of everyone else, but never reached his full cpacity before he could die. Like Hendrix, there will never be anyone close to him because we never saw how far he could go before he reached his true peak. And the sooner the world realizes that the sooner we can get away from threads like this, focusing on wannabes, fakes and "next comings" that will never compare o him.

I was totally unaware of the fanatical following Bruce Lee had, this is my first encounter with it. Guess the best thing to do is just leave it alone.
