Want to Learn Muay Thai from Instructional Videos!

Hi

I am new to all of this.

I want to learn Muay Thai.

I have got some videos of Duke Roufus 3 volumes on Muay Thai
Also, i have got Ram Kaman's Videos

What about Master Sken's video ?



I dont have any gyms which teach this art.

I am really serious about learning it by myself or with a friend.

Can it be done if I am determined ?

If you allready have a decent background in karate, taekwon do or boxing then you could probably pick up the fundamentals of muay thai decently.

If you are starting from scratch, you will pick up bad habits and won't have live partners to really help you with drills. believe it or not, you have to learn how to use the thai pads and focus mitts....trust me.

If I give a beginner some focus mitts or thai pads, he will have to place them slowly and will forget sequences because he hasn't developed the hand-eye coordination or timing that you develop by practicing and drilling.

AJ, the best way to learn anything is to do it, ideally under the watchfull eye of a mentor or instructor.

Try to go to seminars and camps every now and again so you can learn under a qualified instructor, videotaping yourself and sending it to a qualified instructor can also allow you to improve and avoid bad habits.

Not to mention, having a mirror to see yourself doing the techniques also helps. You might want to check and see if there's any hardcore full contact karate around close by like seido, shidokan, kyukoshinkai, and others which have adopt muay thai/boxing techniques, you may have to learn kata, but you will also get to improve under a qualified instructor.

Skren's dvds are for more advanced muay thai guys; instructionals like Duane Ludwig, Janjira, Vut, Rob Kaman, Pat Militech & Bas Rutten's striking tapes off their MMA sets, and Duke Roufus are definitely suited for the beginner.
