  • what "opening moves" have you used in a street fight?

for me, I was shoved once, so I used a front kick (teep) to open the fight.
Once used a headlock as an opening move
Once used a right cross to open.
once put a key in between my fingers and start punching a guy after he almost ran me over

what have been your opening moves out there in the crazy world?

    This is what you do:
You say "omg plz dont hurt me i am teh weeksauce"
    then they walk away
then you sneak up behind them MetalGearSolid/SplinterCell style, and roundhouse them in the head.
then you say: "What nowwwww beeeeeatchhhhh"
And this is how I do.

Maybe I'm just to nice, but my usual opening "move" is getting punched. The next few manuevers do much better for me than the opener.

I've only been in one fight since I've started Muay Thai, stopping a druggie from breaking in to my friends house.

Granted he was drunk. My first reaction was a teep to the chin because he was slow. My second move was to crouch and throw an elbow into his solar plexus. Since the guy was drunk he was down, but I did get a massive bruise on my forearm from blocking a haymaker.

But so far, in every street fight I have seen, the bigger guy usually goes for the single handed shirt grab with either hard crosses or hard uppercuts. Do your gyms have any sort of self defence component? Mine has about 15 minutes of street fighting defense, that tend to tie in with Muay thai, e.g. Escape from wrist grab + elbow counter. Great stuff!

I think all gyms should have that. Where do you train?

I train at a place called Peterec's Martial Arts in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Its great!

              Here is the website:

It definitely helps with real life situations, and no its not that stupid self defence where you have to execute 25 different complicated moves to get out of a simple head lock. Its simple and effective.
