What is the difference between the regular punching bags and the muay thai ones? Im pretty much a beginner but if i were to buy one to train at home what would i need?

I think regular bags are fine but if you can get a thai bag it's good for leg kicks, alot of thai gyms in thailand use ringside boxing bags from articles in mt mags i've seen, but i'll defer to a thai boxer on this one.

Banana bags are for using low kicks, cheapest place to get a muay thai banana bag is at www.ambersports.com get the one that comes unfilled because it's cheaper that way and they tell you how to fill it up on their site. You can always get a cheap punching bag at your local sports store and they're good for working upper body stuff.

Regular Bags: Shorter, lighter, more mobile, cheaper, easier to get a hold of.

Thai Bags: Extremely versitile, about 6 feet long, heavier, easy to adjust weight in, more expensive, most times a better quality, hard to get a hold of except for internet, large shipping charge.

Thai bags are in my opinion better, the only thing you can't work are kicks to the groin.

However if you have the money get both.
