  • They are attempting to ban martial arts in canada

Yeah theres some oldschool section of the legislature which they are trying to bring up now. Which will outlaw all martial arts in canada, except boxing. But boxing isnt really an art therefor it is okay.

ps. This is not bullshit, I am serious

My question is: Does Canada want to ban MAs or regulate MA. I remember a poster stating how hard it wa to open a school in (Greece I beilieve or Holland Toudiyama may know). Essentially they must undergo a strict process to open a school so this separates the true MAs from the fakes.
        Just a thought

It's shit like this that makes me HATE Canada. First they dont allow citizens of Canada to have guns, now they can't do martial arts. The US seriously needs to sell those bastards to mexico.

So what's new. Don't you know your martial art history? In Japan anyway, sometime around the 12th century before guns were invented. They outlawed all swords {the weapon of choice} except for the samauri class. To be a samauri you had to work for a royal family or ruling king called a Diamoyo. (sp) Karate/Jujitsu/unarmed combat was also outlawed but taught in secrecy. One of the secret training methods was the hidden kata. The temples, were only open to a few select students who would train in secret. Martial arts has been surrounded by secrecy for years.

Regarding Martial Arts & Firearms in Canada

Well I live in Canada & understand you can own a Firearm if you have a Firearms Licence.
As for banning Martial Arts I doubt that would happend they may only allow full contact participants to enter full contact tournaments at the age of 18.

In my opinion it would be a disgrace to ban Martial Arts anywhere in the World

How dare any goverment tell People how to enjoy themselves. I thought we lived in a Country of Democracy. Where one respects other Peoples Culture.
I truly doubt if The Canadian Goverment wishes to ban Martial Arts. After all Martial Arts is big buisness in Canada USA Europe Australia & The Whole World.
As for MMA Kickboxing & All full contact sports there is just too many fans & The Goverment would be sued by Promoters & Everybody who has financial interests in the Martial Arts Buisness industry.

However if you look at the UFC it has changed its rules for fighter safety.
Maybe they should have UFC Gloves which cover the fingers yet allow the fingers movement like The Enter The Dragon Black Gloves Bruce Lee wore in The Enter the Dragon Movie. This would prevent serious eye injuries.
Shin Guards Head Protection & Ankle Guards should be optional but mouth guard & groin guard should always be mandatory.
Also Breast Protection should be Mandatory too for Women fighters.

I love MMA & UFC Tournaments as well as all full contact events but safety should always be considerd.
However if both fighters wish to be allowed to use Elbows knees & headbutting during there match they should be allowed to do so by legal agreement in both camps.

It will be a sad day if Goverments try to ban Martial Arts.
For if MMA or UFC went underground then it would truly be unsafe.
I can imagine death matches if MMA went underground.
So for fighter safety keep all full contact sports legal.
                          Phillip.

Something like this would be all over the place. Doing a google search the only thing I find banned in Canada is blow-guns. Some people might be talking about it somewhere, but its not going to happen.

There is absolutely nothing in section 83 that mentions anything about banning martial arts in Canada. The section (in Part II "Offences Against Public Order") outlaws prize-fighting currently. Martial Arts are completely legal, have been for quite awhile, and will continue to be into the future. I hope a lot of you get out to see one of the dozens of amateur Muay Thai cards that will be held over the summer months across Canada.

Let's extinguish some of those torches and let the "witches" free for at least a little while longer.

If you want to champion professional fighting, that is a different story, and I would advise you stay away from generalizing blanket statements such as "They are attempting to ban martial arts in Canada". Just my thoughts...
