Who is the father of Muay Thai? I know his name but I just want to see how much people know about Muay Thai history. In ancient Thailand when they were at war with the Brumies the champion of thailand was captured by the Brumies army and force to fight against the top fighters of the Brumies. He faught 10 fights in a row and won each one with no rest in between the matches so he was named the father of Muay Thai and this day is celebrated in Thailand as "Muay Thai day" on March 17. So who knows his name?

Nai Khanohm Dtom, the "Black Prince." He was taken as a prisoner of war by the Burmese after they sacked and burned their capital around 1774, and defeated 10 (or 12, depending who you ask) Burmese back to back in bare-knuckle fights to the death.

Nai Khanom Thom was not the "founder" of Muay Thai, but he is one of the historical legends. to this day in mid April in the village of Mae Sot on the border with Myanmar (Burma) "Muay Kaad Chuek" matches are fought in honor of the victory of Nai Khanom Thom. thse matches are fought with hemp twine bound fists and the rules are different than modern Muay Thai, 2 referees, last round has no time limit and matches are fought till KO or first blood on the head.
MasterToddy was the first Ajarn to bring western fighters to these matches bringing his champions Kit Cope and Ben Garcia (both won by KO) as well as a few other fighters to compete for the first time in this traditional event. it was documented on a MTV program called "True Life: my life as a Muay Thai kickboxer"
in reality Muay Thai has no "founder" being an art that is literally centurys old. it was practiced by King and commoner alike, there is plenty of good reading on the net just do a search on the history of Muay Thai to find out more.

its proven in the fact that the fights to honor the man have been going on for generations and its a story traditionally recognized by both the Thais and the Burmese.
I dont believe personally that he killed 10-12 men in a row as that is not mentioned in the version I was taught.
as the story was relayed to me, The Burmese King heard that a famous Muay Thai Boxer was among the prisoners captured in the war with Siam, he immediately arranged for a fight with one of his soldiers to demonstrate the superiority of the burmese boxers. Before the fight Nai Khanom Thom performed a strange, slow, rythmic dance (Ram Muay) and then dispatched the first fighter with ease, The burmese claimed that their fighter was enchanted by this dance and soldiers started volunteering to avenge the honor of Burmese boxing, one by one Nai Khanom Thom dispatched them using all the Major and Minor techniques of Muay Thai till finally the king called upon his Master Burmese boxer and body guard whom Nai Khanom Thom defeated. The Burmese king then stated that this man was the greatest fighter of all and declared that he was to be freed and offered him a gift of money or wives, Nai Khanom Thom declared that money was easy enough to come by so he took the kings gift of two beautiful Burmese women.
no mention was made of the matches being to the death in the traditional tale as told to me, but there are several minor variations of this tale, being that it is an ancient tradition.
