what do you think about Savate, the French kick boxing sport/martial art. What are its origins? Is it practical? How does it compare to other kickboxing (thai) as far as similarities and differences in technique/philosophy?

    thanks!

savate is pretty underrated. theres 2 kinds though, sport savate and original savate. the original savate is one of the most practical, effective, and battle tested arts that exists. in addition to the kickboxing style of standup u see from savate, savate includes stick and knife, grappling, and even the use of the chair as a weapon to be mastered. think about it, chairs are everywere and can be used effectively against people who are armed or unarmed.

this site right here has a lot of info on true savate. check it out.

Savate is kickboxing, just as karate and MT are kickboxing. They're all different. Savate uses the boot as a weapon. Translated literally "Old Boot". It mixes french kicking with English pugilism and Irish stickfighting. Many people training in Irish-stickfighting first go to learn savate, as they have similar stickfighting techniques using the cane (La Canne).
