  • good book on striking

I'm looking for a good book on striking, a book that can show legit stuff on striking/counters/stance/ect... in an informative, and interesting way. Are there any good books like this on striking (no NECISSARILY just Muay Thai books)?

    thanks!!

Man, I have never had good luck with the books. I mean, they have good info, but with the limitations of the pictures, you never get an exact idea of what to do. I am a progidy of the self taught method in Muay Thai, and have bought many books, videos, etc. The only time my effectivness and skill increased is training with an instructor and sparring, sparring, and sparring. If you are like me and do not have time to hit a class every week, videos and books can do some good, but to hone your skills, attend a class whenever possible and use that time to learn. I usually will actually take notes from my 1 on 1 time, and train solo working the details I learned. Sparring is where I would test these notes and my progress. There are a few books that I would recommend in your library; any of the Bruce Lee publishings he wrote are really comprehensive, and the No Holds Barred fighting method by Mark Hatmaker is a well rounded striking book. His book I have to say is the best that I have so far, and it is designed for the MMA fighter since it teaches the striking and defensive moves based on the 4 oz gloves, so for me it is effective when dealing with true fist strikes and not 14 oz gloves.

thanks, I suppose I'll see if i like that book. I also REALLY am interesting in getting "Catch Wrestling", because I want to see what kind of submissions developed independantly in America, and if thee is some stuff I could use myself durring my grappling.

If you reall want to get great advice on striking then you need to go to www.basrutten.tv and check out two things. First you need to check out is the Bas Rutten's MMA workout. This is a great way to condition your body to strike fast and hard. Mr. Rutten covers only the basic punches in this one but how many do you really need!? Now I know that there are some in here that will say that learning a few punches can really keep you from being a successful fighter. But this is for WORKING OUT! This will not make you a better puncher but it will bring you from you current condition of punching and cardio to a whole new level. Now you are saying " I asked for info on striking, not cardio! " Well then check out item number 2 and that is the Bas Rutten Big DVD's of Combat! This is a 7 DVD collection that covers it all! Now if you do not know who Mr. Rutten is then check out his BIO. Now I have been training for years now ( and when I say year I dont mean 3 whole years! I have been training for over 20 years now) Ive seen it all and have found my savior to fine tune all of my skills and roll them into one. Now I will tell you one thing...This can kind of be expensive. So I suggest that you get the MMA work out. This will run you about 50-60 bucks. Thats not to bad for the info that you get. With that you get 4 audio disc's and 1 instructional DVD that tells you how to use the audio CD's. The Big DVd's of Combat is going to run you 120 bucks! now that is really worth the info that you will get in the 7 DVD's! So check it out and see what you think. Im not trying to put a plug in for Mr. Rutten but I have been a fan of him for years and I have to say as far as instructional videos go this are the best. Tell them that Rouge Warrior sent you
