Im new to thai boxing and I realize that at the moment I am in no condition to compete, but in the future when I become more skilled im interested in competing. At the moment im also doing lots of weight lifting to generally get bigger and stronger. I was wondering however, at the moment i am 16, 5'6-7ish and weighing in at 148.5 lb.s ish and if I competed in the shape im in now I would probably fight at 145 lbs which is i believe welterweight(at least in boxing it is). I was thinking that if one were significantly shorter than their opponent in thai boxing it could be a problem in the clinch because your head is closer to their knees and your head is farther from your knees. Its not unheard of for middleweights to be over 6'0 so that could be bad. So do you think that if I moved up to middleweight(160 lb.s) that I would be at a disadvantage? Please give examples and your own experiences in the ring, because ive been thinking about this.
Note: this assumes I will stay the same height, im only 16 so I suppose it could be possible but I havent grown in like 3 monthes so im not really holding my breath over it(besides my dad is 5'7-8ish and my mom is 4'11!)
