  • Cheap Training Devices?

First, it's kind of late so I'm just going to make the post. If you know of a thread and think I should just use the search function, say so (and gimme a hint on thread title too please). Anyway, to the post:

A while back I quit my job. So I'm going to school, barely getting by, and still paying my dues to the gym I can't afford to drive to (at the moment, soon I'll have a new job and continue going). But during this time, and in the future when I am too busy to go to the gym, I want to train at home. So, does anybody know of a way to get a cheap banana bag or something to train on? The lower the cost the better. Anyone got any good ideas on a "do it yourself" type project?

One thing I thought of was a suggestion by an old teacher (for another MA). He suggested duct taping a pillow or two to a tree and then going at it (safely). While this would work, I don't exactly have a tree nearby and would have to do this elsewhere (at a location I haven't quite found yet).

Another thing would to be to check the used sporting goods stores. I just thought of that one and will get on that soon.

Anyway, hope that gets the ball rolling.

Yea, the gym fee is killing me too, still haven't got a proper pair of thai shorts. I think you should check on ebay, i know, but there must be some 2nd equip around. Regarding making use of trees and stuff, material from an old sofa(leather) comes to mind, but just dunno how...

you dont have to use any equipment to train, you can train using nature around you, using your own bodywieght, everything that you can do in the gym, i can get the same results from doing something with my own bodywieght, or using things around me, walls, trees, (without the pillow) the ground, water, many many things, training outdoors is only limited by your own imagination,

      be creative,

      peace,

In reality I don't train weights. I train body-weight, simming, running, and so on.

But to train a tree without a pad. I'm just not that conditioned right now. It would be nearly impossible. But the couch leather pad is a good idea, thanks.

does the idea of arthritis bother you at all gong fu? upsets me slightly...

what body weight exercises work the legs? theres no muscle there and there should be... yeah this is the wrong place but its roughly on topic

if kicking lamposts is silly (people have been very clear on that point to me) then hitting tree's probably isnt wise... but i kinda want to find out...

First, arthritis from what? From hitting unpadded hard objects? Or from bodyweight excersizes.

Second, there are some bodyweight excersizes for legs. Squats, a sitting like squat you hold for x amount of time, squats to jumps, walking squats, then running, running up hills, soccer and other sports, riding a bike, skateboarding (ok, thats just for us who like these things), etc etc etc.

Cool. So can anyone think of some things to train with??

athritis from the hitting things. i believe that happens now, just hit a concrete wall rather harder than would have been wise. clenching a fist hurts a lot now, but just by being able to clench it i dont think ive broken anything. swelling tho

thanks for the leg exercises... i hate squats but i guess i should do some until im good enough to like doing them

elastic bands are good... lots of them, put hands together, palms inwards in front of you. put bands around backs of hands. pull hands apart, try to break the bands. easy with one, not so easy with 40 or so
