True that, in Thailand they speak Thai...so if you go there you should learn the thai terminology. Other then that roundhouse means roundhouse, its all pretty simple.

"Teep" or have you heard it called by another name? just asking cause thats all I have ever heard it called.

not for my gym even, I use to do boxing and then switched to muay thai to work my legs and knees and stuff. We will be doing pad work where the pad person just calls out combos and the fighter does it. Some of the people dont understand what a cross is or the phrase hook off the jab but know everything by 1,2,3,4, left, right, but for legs i thought everyone called it a teep and such, but then again i just called alot of it "head kick or kick to the legs or knee".

Yes, you're right, there is some terminology that is the same across the board, but there are also a lot of techniques that are called by all kinds of crazy names.....

I have seen spelling differ though, on the words that are the same, like: Teep, or Tiip, or Teeb...and Plum, or prum, or prom, etc....

To answer your question....

"What's a MuayThai four-count?"

Okay, I realize that it means a 4 technique combination, but there are endless numbers of 4 technique combinations. In our gym, we just simply say, "Take four shots...", and then usually explain what 4 shots we're looking for.

"4-count" is a common name used throughout the T.B.A. It may be Right roundkick, hook, cross, left roundkick, for example. You can also use knees and elbows, etc. Typically at seminars with Ajarn Chai, we end a combination with a 4-count. So to answer Big Kahuna, yes and no....yes, the 4-counts are the same, but, for example: I was taught to call them 4-count left to right, right to left, same side right, same side left. I know one other instructor within the T.B.A. who uses 4-count number 1, 4-count number 2, etc. So variance is slight i how you refer to them, but it is there.

Since I started training, which hasn't been long, I have learned two 4-counts: "boxing 4-count" and the "thai 4-count". Terminology might be a little off, but not much.

The boxing 4-count: jab, cross, hook, cross
The thai 4-count: switch kick (kick to inner thigh - lead leg), cross, slap punch, kick to out thigh - lead leg
