  • Important Announcement!

In addition to being St. Patrick's Day (Feliz Dia de San Patricio!), today is...

    NATIONAL MUAYTHAI DAY

In honor of Nai Khanom Thom, who according to legend defeated 10 Burmese fighters to win his freedom from captivity around the year 1774.

So let's all go out and drink some Green Singha!!!!!

The most famous Thai fighter was Nai Khanom Thom, who it is believed around 1774, defeated 10 Burmese Warriors in consecutive bouts (all no holds-barred, bare-knuckle fights) in a single day. All these bouts were fought to the death (there were no decisions) and in doing this Nai Khanom Thom went onto become a national hero of Thailand, and was recognised as a Muay Thai patriarch following his great victories.
Damn that's hard core I just got this from a quick google search. Do you know where I can read up about this guy? There's got to be an interesting story behind this.

Keep Google searching his name. You're not going to find much in the way of real details. As much as we MuayThai enthusiasts wish it were 100% true, this story is mostly legend. Don't get me wrong, he was a real person and was imprisoned by the Burmese. I'm sure he did fight for his freedom, but to the best of my knowledge fights were not always to the death. I think fighting to the death was more of the exception to the rule.

Thanks, I was afraid there might not be much available about him in English. It's the same way with Wong Fei Hong. Oh well, I'll drink a toast to his memory tonight anyway
