  • I caught the kick, now I'm gonna....

What tools/tactics do you use after you have scooped/caught a kick?

How do you train in the gym to sharpen these tools?

this is in relation to the post on plowing actually so we can also maybe talk about the rules on attacking a fighter while holding a leg?

there is a great clip on MikeMiles.com of Coban catching Dida Diafat's right roundkick in his right hand while in a right lead stance then delivering a right hook and dropping him!

The Plow is no longer an option. You are only allowed between 1 & 3 steps and you must then strike and/or release.

Depending on whether you've scooped underhook or overhook makes a difference.

Underhook: Press forward and try to boot to the head as they fall

Overhook: Sweep the leg or jerk them to the side and boot to the head

jerk the leg in toward you and let go, bring the elbow up into the face...
or if your MMA, step over the leg and sit down into a knee bar...you can also twist it into your body and down to put them on their back (they can roll to the front...which would put you in a position to stomp) sit down and do a hamstring cutter with your shin, or a crab lock.

Such sick, SICK, twisted, painful, sadistic things to do to another person.

That's also why I'm so glad I've taken up Muay Thai.

Oh...as far as I know only the sitting down high on the shin as a lever is dirty pool in an MMA match...for something really fucked up, stomp kick the support leg at an angle right above the knee cap, down and in.

Break someone's patella inward like that, it might severe an artery, and the leg might have to be removed.

I don't know what 'plowing' is but here is an option....

                  kick

In training it's a strike to the chest so we don't 'hurt' each other. Real world it would be a strike to the face!!

                    Gunjin...

That is not legal in MuayThai. "Hooking" sweeps (back of leg) are not allowed.

The "Plow" is when you scoop a kick, and then run forwards pushing your opponent across the ring to bounce them off of the ropes and time a jumping knee or roundhouse kick.....

Cool thanks for clarifying. Forgot this thread was in the muay thai section so certain street/milirary techniques may not be legal in the ring.

Not sure if it's legal in competition, but one of my favorite tactics against a round kick is to catch it and then drive a knee strike upwards into the inner thigh of the caught leg. After that I'll drop the leg and follow up with a kick to the leg... to the inner thigh if I can get it. If I can't, I'll land one to the outside of the thigh.

Another little trick I like is to scoop and catch a teep as I sidestep. Then to drop the leg and kick upward into the calf of the falling leg... very painful. After than follow up to whatever targets your opponent leaves open for you... and they will leave something open.
