  • How long was it before your first fight?

i'm 17, turning 18 in july... i've only had 10 private muay thai lessons (no previous martial arts experience before besides 1 or 2 boxing lessons over a year ago) and already i'm about to have my first fight set up for late june and that seems really quick, now that i know this i'm going to start taking group classes 5-7 days a week though, i guess its time to start taking muay thai alot more seriously now - just wondering how long after you began training did you guys get your first fight

also, khun kao - are you going to be at the fights on may 11th with Master K?

Wow wow bro. That has bad written all over it! Ive been training shootfighting, then muay thai, then BJJ and Ive yet to compete because my trainers havent told me Im ready yet. A few classes dont mean too much, Id say wait up and slow down.

yeah i know, but my trainer was a former pro fighter in Thailand with over 70 fights and is very well known/respected and he brought the idea up to me not the other way around, if he feels i'll be ready by then, i believe him - plus on top of that i'll be training 5-7 days seperately from his priv. lessons up until the fight as compared to the once a week private lesson i've been taking from him up until now - if he's confident i'll be ready by then so am i

Damn. Then I think youll do good. Learning one on one is a million times better then going to classes of 30.

You seem to have a lot of confidence, you should do awesome. Try to get some fight pics (pre/during/post) and post them! Win or lose, you got some serious balls to go out there.

Master K is a real stickler regarding who he allows to represent him in the ring. If he thinks you can do it, then you can. Its now up to you to do the work and prove him right! Bear in mind he may simply be dangling the proverbial carrot in front of your nose to inspire you to work even harder. He's really good with figher psychology and how to get the best out of his fighters.

And if I know Master K, it is probably a "smoker" event, which is an unsanctioned event where you can pretty safely throw almost anyone in the ring to test their mettle. Most folks who participate in these matches are novices who want to 'feel' things out and get an idea whether or not ring-fighting is really for them, without having to go through the major preparation and build-up as you would for a sanctioned event.

I don't know anything about the fights on May 11th. Where are they?

I will be at the fights in Richmond, VA on April 29th, where Master K's pro fighter, Steve Richards, is competing. K asked me to be available to work his corner if need be, as Master K will not be there himself. He has to go out of the country for a week or so to teach overseas.

Personally, I had my first fight after 6 months training. It was an actual sanctioned match as back then, they didn't even hold smokers....

I saw several guys with a few months or less training getting in the ring in Thailand. The were usually matched against equally inexperienced Thais, often smaller because the promoters want the farangs to win for the tourists. Not always though. They were asking me after one month if I wanted to fight. I felt after another two months, I'd be ready.
There was one boy, about 16 from Italy who did not train hard but fought twice and won both after maybe one month of training. He did however stink up the ring, it was embarrassing for the art I though. Others did much better though.
If you can find an opponent with equal experience, why not?

                  hey muaythaiKO

I had about a year of causal training in mauy thai/ kickboxing and about 4 weeks of solid training before I had my first fight in mauy thai but there have been many people and my gym who have fought with about six months of training and still have competed very well and won. I guess it’s up to the individual but I thing I have to say make sure you fitness is up to scratch, thats what i found the hardest
