Well this is the explanation a guy at my gym gave about why he does bag work with his big fighting gloves. I guess it makes sense to me.

The Question I have, is that if this is true, why even have different gloves for bag work and fighting? Additionally, why not push this to the extreme and have really heavy gloves for bag work? When you take these off and put on your fighting gloves, then you will feel like your hands super light and quick.

Hmmm... what do you guys think?
I guess adding weights to your hands beyond a certain limit will just mess with your technique and not help you at all.

Bare knuckles because I want my knuckles to grow harder.

I am wondering if that works. When you smash focus pads, you're hidding something that's pretty padded as it is. Not wearing wraps will only toughen your knuckles to surface skin damage...not the bones.

I'm sure somebody has to know a way to condition your fists to be able to punch bareknuckled, but hitting focus pads barehanded doesn't seem to be it.

          My $0.02.

do both. i usually do some barehanded bagwork before i put on the gloves and work on my power. i do like 10 min of light barehanded bagwork to toughen my fists. however i dont hit the bag has hard as i can though, im clearly not ready for it. you want start out light and build up the tolerance and strength in your fists. i also tap my knuckles lightly against random objects through the day and ive noticed a decent increase in the strength of knuckles. i can hit solid objects a little harder now and not even feel anything. again, you dont wanna start going nuts on the heavy bag barehanded, it could be damaging. but just start light, and once your knuckles start hurting then put on the gloves. i see some of the professional fighters at my gym who hit the heaviest bags we have with full power like its nothing you dont just wake up one day and be able to do that.

my instructor who has been boxing for over 20 years. the 2 front knuckles are huge on his hands. his fist is like a dangerous impact weapon, with 2 big ass protruding knuckles that have been conditioned over many years from constant bagwork.
