  • BBJ vs Muay Thai Fighter

For those who havent seen it:

The Muay Thai guy was the one in black, clearly he got owned by the BBJ fighter.

no fair, clearly the BJJ guy had a huge weight and height advantage over the MT guy...
And the MT guy didn't want to elbow and knee the bjj guy cause he didn't believe in hurting others...

yes, yes, yes, we all know BJJ is more effective in most one on one situations.
But BJJ is so boring to watch, unless you practice and know the insights. That's why i choose to MT anyday over BJJ.

If only the MT fighter had a little takedown defense it would've been lights out for the BJJ guy.

(Since when are there takedowns in Muay Thai Lmao)

This is also known as the Yoshida vs Royler fight (the video), Boarspear should get a kick out of that.

? yeah a flying knee to the face is laughable? where the hell did you get that Idea? You see that more and more in MMA nowadays, someone posted a great clip of Kid Yamamoto doing this exact defense against the takedown, speaking of I never claimed that Muay Thai had "takedowns" I simply said that the knee is a great takedown stopper, grapplers lower their head to shoot in for christs sake, they do half the work for you. Maybe you need to lay off the Sake Samuraidude.

While MT may not actually TEACH takedown defense per se, it's pretty easy to see that knees and elbows are pretty much the best option to counter a takedown.

In one of the last Bushidos Gomi took out Gracie in 6 seconds when he charged in for a takedown at the start. The rest of the 6 seconds were Gomi getting free knees at Gracie's head while in the sprawl..

An acquaintance of mine did basically the exact same thing at an amateur MMA match...knee to the face stopped the takedown.

Wow you got lucky and caught someone with a knee, or your friend did, or Gomi did it once.

If you look at the history of MMA (no takedowns in Muay thai so its a MMA discussion). If the knee was so great, why would anyone practice wrestling. How come Chuck Lidell sprawls instead of kneeing.

                  Heres a good example.

Wanderlei Silva, probably the man known for the most brutal and effective knees in MMA. Ricardo Arona put him down alot in their two fights, where was Silva's Muay Thai Knee defense?

A knee to the face isnt a good takedown defense, its a lucky shot that people sometimes land that looks flashy. Look at many of the good wrestlers in MMA, Matt Hughes he goes for the shot at least once a fight, how many times has he been kneed to stop it? Never. Mark Coleman's ankle pick of Maurico "Shogun" Rua, (which ended up breaking his arm, whether by luck or not) Why didnt the ChuteBox fighter, renowned for their muay thai , just knee him in the face?

He was widely considered the better fighter. I think he is too, but how could he possibly get taken down with the knee in the face at his disposal.

                    This is going pretty offtopic.

A knee is a knee, just because MT specialize in knees, doesn't mean a fighter throws one - "Omg, that's a MT knee". As a matter of fact, since when does a muay thai practioner have to learn to knee in such a way to prevent takedowns??

a knee is not just a knee, the way alot of JMA and KMA teach knees is completely different than Muay Thai from what I have seen, the knee is only brought up into the target and most of the time I have seen it taught flat footed, the knee technique that most MMA fighters use from Muay Thai is the Long Knee, which travels out further and is driven off the toes. the only difference in MMA is the target is the head in a shoot-counter. Plenty of KO vidclips to back this. I don't really think this is off target at all to be honest.

Seeing as the 'topic' is 'Style XX is better than style YY', it's probably just as well that we do go off it.

It's only a few short posts now before someone mentions 'The Street!11001101'.

                          This is criving me crazy

Why, you say? Well, I have been around the world long enough to know that BBJ means 'bareback blowjob' Kind of changes how you think about it, now, doesn't it? And I just realized I wrote it is criving me crazy instead of driving me crazy, so I understand how this mistake could happen on many levels. I'm just surprised that in this bunch of miscreants I am the only one to complain.

First off Matt Hughes was ktfo by Pele with a knee to the head when he shot in....go look it up.Second off people are talking about Gomi's knee to Gracie(which was originally intended to be a kick but the knee hit first)and Kid's ko of Miyata....and no one seemed to mention the most important thing...bolth are EXCELLENT wrestlers who have no fear of being take down and if something goes wrong they can take there opponent down.

so any blow timed to hit someone as they come in for a takedown is a "lucky shot"? wow why bother practicing it!! I guess you should just resign yourself to the fact that if someone shoots your going to the ground eh?
I think samrai guy is criving me crazy as well!
