hahahaha.. kinda sad because all of those threads end up pointless like this. But yea, since most threads are, I'll go with it too.

Btw I don't know too much about MMAs, but isn't there an opening for a takedown? Like I always see people go for it only when the other guy raise a leg to kick? Therefore if someone actually has the opportunity to throw a knee, doesn't it mean the other guy is just going for a takedown blindly? make sense if you ask me. Plus there's so much else involved like reaction time, speed and ring experience, that's why i find comments like "Muay Thai take down defense= Flying knee" or "Muay Thai takedown defense = Laughable" pretty mmmm... dumb.

No I should resign the fact that if someone shoots I'm going to sprawl and stuff the takedown, then when they are on the ground start kneeing them in the head.

Yes, the knee is a lucky shot, and anyone who relies on the knee to the face as their takedown defense is gonna get put on their back so fast. You say "why bother practicing", well thats what your doing with this knee to the face, too lazy to do your wrestling homework so you say "oh I will just knee him in the face" that works all the time, it worked in this one fight, it worked in one of matt hughes 44 fights, that must make it the ultimate technique.

your acting like its 1 time that a grappler got caught coming in with a knee or that I am using the knee as an excuse to avoid training. basically taking what I said way out of context. I said its a usefull strike to counter the shoot, the rising amount of KO's by this technique in MMA seem to bear me out and as JKD187 pointed out it is a strike used by some pretty damn good grapplers. Sorry if you think Grappling is the be all end all, its not, its just part of the whole. Maybe one day you'll get your bell rung as you shoot in and experiance a moment of clarity..................

I dont really shoot in, Im more of an upper body/leg trip takedown guy if you must know.

And I never said grappling is the be all and end all, its just ridiculous to claim a knee to the face as a viable takedown defense. Yeah it might work more than most other strikes, but its not takedown defense, takedown defense is wrestling or judo, sprawl, etc... not a strike, is a right hook takedown defense because its possible that if someone shoots in and you catch them they may get knocked out? How bout a jump spinning slap kick?

I've had my bell rung from headkicks and punches etc.... a knee to the face that "rings my bell" (meaning not knocking me out or extremely close to it) probably wont stop me from finishing my takedown.

By the way, posing hypotheticals "if you get your bell rung while you go for a takedown" is dumb.

What if I said, "yeah well when you try to knee someone in the face and they pick you up and slam you on your head knocking you out, maybe youll get why its not a good takedown defense".

They're both stupid arguments because they are hypotheticals... so dont bother posting them.

I'm the big 0-0 in actual MMA fights whether they are amateur or professional.

Have I fought full contact MMA in the gym, with rounds, rules, and referees. Yes.

I've also fought another former instructor in a modified "MMA" bout, there was rounds, no referee, and limited rules (for example groin shots were allowed). As far as stoppages go, it was up to the discretion of myself or the opponent, or a tapout, or obviously a knockout.

All of these matches, were with MMA gloves.

I've never actually competed in an event, to tell you the truth I dont think I'm good enough yet.

yet it seems you are good enough to critic the techniques of some of the best pros in MMA? laugh!! knees can knock out those who shoot, but you dont shoot? seems like you are neglecting an aspect of your training guy!!
do you want to tell me now how stupid all the pro MMA fighters who shoot in for a take down are? I am done with this so called discussion. people who shoot can and do get knocked out by a knee. Nuff said.

And while I am not as good as the pro's I can be a critic of their work. I'm not as good as a quarterback as Michael Vick, can I say he doesnt throw the ball as well as Peyton Manning. I certainly can. Can I say idiots who use knees as their takedown defense, defend the takedown as well as wrestlers or judoka.

Oh and I'm not neglecting the shot, its probably the takedown we train the most, along with single legs. Just because I dont use it doesnt mean I dont train it.

It's true fighters can and do get knocked out by a knee, but 98% of the time they just get taken down and have their face beat in. "Nuff" said.

IF YOU WERE SMART YOU WOULD STUDY BOTH AND GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

It depends on who's the better, meaner, and better attributed fighter...it also depends on the scenario...what they were feeling like...what mood their in...if one of them has the shits...etc.

Whoever gets the jump on the other guy USUALLY does pretty well.
