  • Fighting against southpaw

I was after some help in this area. I am having my fourth fight in about 4 weeks and i just found out I’m fighting a fighter with southpaw stance, now i have never come across anyone who is a lefty in fighting or sparring so I don’t know if i should go about things the same way? And if there is anything in particular that i can work on to fight one, eg: combo etc I’m fighting with knees no elbows, if anyone could make suggestion it would be of great help

Use footwork to circle to your left, getting to his outside all the time. Kick a lot with you right leg to his lead leg, body and head. You can vary this by sometimes stepping in a bit further, kicking his rear leg.

You can probably keep your body weight a little bit more forward than your use to, because you wont get so many lead leg low kicks on you. And if they come you have more time to see them and evade, because they're delivered from his rear leg, or from the lead leg with a bit of a switch first. My suggestion is that you simply evade the lowkick, and not block it. This will open up counter possibilities.
If he just lowkicks with his lead leg without switching, you ignore it and attack, since his kick will be weak.

Keeping your body weight a bit forward makes you offensive, and you can spring forward fast. Also makes counter kicks with a straight cross easier.
It also makes it faster to block with your rear leg. And that is probably what you should do against his power rear leg round house, instead of blocking most kicks with you lead leg as you're used to...

    Hope that helped a little.
