They dont teach those kicks because like u said before, u dont believe they would be effective. Some people have all those kicks polished because they have a backround in TKD or Kyokushin
And yes Spinning heels kicks do work especially when a pro knows what he is doin.
Please say you are winding us up?

1st obviously you are unfortunate enough not to have had a thai instructor who could teach you most multi angled kicks?

2nd a lot of the spinning stuff like backfists etc were stopped in some countries as it was deemed uncontrollable & just dangerous especialy in amature stuff.

In the UK a lot of clubs wouldn't allow elbows in amature fights because of the danger so a newcomer coming into the club wouldn't notice it trained so much.

3rd the amount of people i have seen put onto their backside because they were more interested in getting flashy kicks off against an opponent is comical which is why a lot of thai boxers even though they may know more kicks they will still tend to stick to the basics because most of the time it's all they need.

4th more advanced stuff doesn't tend to be taugh to someone without already showing they have the capable skills to use it.

5th have you ever tried to get a clean head kick in a full contact thai fight & see how difficult it can be?

Yes ive seen this many TIMES.. those fighters i prevoius mentioned all have done this.

People from my club, that train in Muay thai regularly fight in thai fights. And have several knock outs, with surprising spining kicks.

They use it as a SUPRISE. If u show the opponent that u are capable of doin it and miss. Then isnt worth doin it again.

3-4 in K-1. Fun to watch though. Abnormally good hands for a TKD stylist. I would imagine he cross trains in boxing. Again... fun to watch.

The more kicks you know the better IMO. TKD is awsome for its range of kicks. I know a lot of fighters in kickboxing who can pull off spinning back kicks in the ring and do damage. The ones where you stomp your foot backwards like a horse kicking are brutal. They are really hard to defend against if your cornered, otherwise, you just step out of the way and snot them. This is the danger with it. It would be hard to pull off though in MT and better suited to kickboxing i reckon, but would be good to have up your sleeve, same with axe kicks and crescent kicks. Just differnent angle to work with, but you would want to be very quick and dead accurate.

In a perfect world, I would have done TKD until I was old enough to spar properly, then done boxing, then MT. Thats just me.

As for old mate who started the thread, I would maybe try and just get someone in their dans from TKD (in private lessons perhaps) to teach you some kicking techniques and practice them on your own or with a partner or heavy bag. I certainly wouldnt start doing TKD classes expecting to learn all this stuff. Too late for that. Dont need to pick up any bad habbits with your hands now either.....

Wow...still, you're knowledge astounds me. Could you perhaps be an incarnation of the Buddha? Oh mighty Bodhivatsava, please lecture us in your wisedom.

The moment you take your eyes and your hands out of angle from your opponent, you are AT RISK.

Stay focused. The spinning heel kicks look great in the movies but I have NEVER seen one win a competition. Everyone who has thrown one at me has learned the feeling of being choked.

As for questions about Muay Thai and weakneses and yadda yadda...

Maximize your strengths, minimize your weaknesses. Find an art that does this for you and you're fine.

I'd advise MT/BJJ. I know it's the generic MMA combo, but I've had a lot of great experience with it, and the two arts complement each other. You'll have most of your bases covered there. Good luck in your training.

Well in MMA there is also a TKD fighter is goin well in the Cage rage his record is impressive. 3time ITF taekwondo champion Zelg Galesic. He has known for havin really fast kicks

(lil mirko) he also crossed trained in other arts, he is very experienced in boxing and Grappling.
I think MT/BJJ is great every1 does it. But its also good to have some style too.
There are alot more fighters i can mention too.

You have started to learn Muay Thai its a long journey and i hope you enjoy it. If you are looking to learn self defense with no weeakness i believe its near impossible. There will always be someone bigger, stronger and more skilled figher just around the corner whether they do your sport or another. The point is you can always improve all aspects of your defense.

I don't think the amature fighters come of as well as the pro fighters regarding spinning kicks.
