  • Savate vs. Muaythai

Two highly ranked lightweight champions: one from muaythai the other from savate. Power vs. Speed.

Savate fighter throws some really quick kicks that stun the thai fighter, but gets moved back by the muaythai guys forward pressure and boxing combinations. muaythai guy lands some direct body shots against the Savate fighter.

Savate guy launches a snapping roundhouse kick at 1:16 from out of no where to the head that puts the muaythai fighter to the canvas.

PS - Savate fighter represents the Inosanto Academy.

      Nice find!

Didn't see any clinching though. I wonder if that was against the rules for this match.

I also wonder if the match would have been shorter if the Savate guy had been wearing shoes.

Wow, kicks to the head for the knockout. I can't imagine being kicking in the face like that with shoes on. Ouch... Cool post!

It was my understanding that Savate is designed for shoes, I wonder if the Savate guy had to do any major modifications in order to fight bare-foot.

So basically...this is a fight between a muay thai guy...and a muay thai guy with a bunch of savate weapons in his arsenal and more than likely a better understanding of muay thai techniques and better instruction in both arts?

            Yeah...that's a comparison between arts.

the best part is the beginning with the guy humming the muay thai music.
The fight was good...but the humming was just too damn funny.

You can tell the savate fighter favors his feet over his hands. That's a noticeable difference that's germain to each style.

Most muaythai fighters these days (like the one in this vid) understand boxing, can put together punches in bunches and exploit openings.

The Savate fighter has much quicker snap kicks, which I believe is a characteristic of the style. For most of the fight, the Muay Thai fighter seemed to be in control, but he dropped his guard and those quick snap kicks took advantage.

The Thai fighter was not allowed to use knees and elbows. I do not think this is fair in a style vs style fight. You must allow both styles to use everything in their art then it can be a fair fight. Still good to watch.

Come on fella, you've got to give credit to that head kick at the finish. He dropped the guy like a sack of shit, out cold. In the end thats the result you want. No?

yeah its the result you want but that fight was sloppier than sloppy joes sloppy seconds.
maybe im over critical but i would put those guys at having less than 3 fights each in terms of skill/technique, if i had to guess. just being honest/blunt.

I know, and I like both honesty and bluntness, I also liked the sloppy analogy. I think you may be a tad over critical mate, but I know you train at the source of the art, and that brings it's own high standards.

I just know that if the next time I step in the ring I drop someone in the first round with a kick like that, I'll be happier than a dog with a long neck and two dicks.

hahahaha, yeah the kick was great, but for me it was the only good part, but yes it was a good, well timed well placed kick. im not going to change my opinion on the rest of the fight though based on one moment of inspiration.
too much falling around due to inability to find range, wild swinging at targets that arent there. looked more like a Milling session to me. im sure you know what that is lol. i probably am over critical yes.
