  • Looking for the facts

I was getting into an argument with another user on this site about Thai fighters. We were talking about kicks and he was saying that I was too short to be able to do head kicks. I'm 5'11 and he said he was 6'3. I read that most Thai fighters are short 5-6 5-8, from Thailand that is, but the majority of people from the Pacific are shorter because of their diet. I also read that being shorter in the sport puts you at an advantage. What are the facts so I can get this guy to stop PM'n me with private messages about it, its pissing me off

Fact is the taller your opponent is, the less likely it is you will kick him in the head. Beeing shorter against a taller opponent gives you an edge if you can get close enough to him. He won't be able to kick or punch as effectivly. Cause he needs more room.

Unfortunately he's right. You have to be 6' before you are legally allowed to do head-kicks as a farang fighter. There's a different system of rules for Thais.

Ramon Dekkers is 5.7 1/2. And he used headkicks.

never heard that one before, lol i take it its a joke then lol

anyway, being taller is an advantage in fighting pretty much full stop. spar against taller fighters and you soon see why. of course if you are shorter you can learn to fight with the lack of height.
5 foot 11 is not short. you should be able to head kick an average western guy no probs.
Asians are smaller due to genetics, not diet.

also, dont bother having arguements about this sort of subject. there are better things in life to do.

Of course you can kick head high, I'm 5.10 and can easily kick over 6ft. Of course everyone is different and kicking a tall opponent is harder, but a 6.3 person has a chin at 5.5ft, so hit that.

Likewise fighting a taller person in a standup enviroment is harder due to reach disadvantage more than anything, however if you get in close you should have advantage (ie mike tyson).

Not entirely true, diet during growth (baby to 20 years) has a huge impact on your end resulting size. Look at Thais raised in North America.... like 6 feet tall and heavy, freaks me right out since big Thais are so rare here in Thailand. They do happen just rare.

The guy telling you that you cant kick him in the head because he's 4 inches taller than you is detarded, it takes more skill but if you get good and flexible you can kick much higher than your own head, the higher you go the closer you have to be though.

Yes of course Aseepish was joking.

Fair point, most asians i see outside of asia are still small though. But there are more tall ones too, as you say. I would suggest its a bit of both. Food limiting their max size but also genetic limitations in other instances.
                head kick point, totall agree
