  • Sore Legs

I started sparring in Muay Thai. I am able to check alot of kicks but i cant check everything so some get though and my leg is sore as hell from getting kicked. I try to stretch it and the pain goes away for about 5 mins and as soon as I sit down it knot's right back up. Is there any way to get it to go away faster (and yes I know someone will say get better at checking kick's) But I want to walk without a "gangster lip", I am a 5'6'' white kid I cant pull it off.

    Thanks

Try some Tiger Balm from your local drug store.

Spend more time conditioning your legs. Jump more rope, do more leg machines at the gym, more squats, jog with ankle weights and KICK THE BAG MORE!

Kick it harder and kick it more.

Run hills until your quads are on fire. Do lunges and gradually add weights. Run bleachers. Squats, add weights. And yes, kick the bag!

He meant Gangster *LIMP*, as in walking with a strut.

As others have suggested, you need a good leg conditioning regimen so that you won't be as adversely affected by leg kicks that get through your defense.

However, once you've taken those kicks and are stiff & sore, the best things you can do are:

            1. That same evening, you want to use ice & ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory).

            2. After a few days of ice & ibuprofen, you want to begin applying heat and REALLY massaging the area to break up the knots and get the blood flowing through the area again. And as you've already mentioned, keep stretching the muscles to help prevent them from knotting back up. Massaging with Thai liniment, Tiger Balm, Ben Gay, or some sort of sports cream should help speed along the process.

Apart from that, there's not secret trick to it. It just takes time for your body to adjust to MuayThai.

              Oh...OK.
Aside from the jumping rope, running hills etc...find someone to kick you. Use shinguards. And just allow yourself to get kicked in the legs to condition the legs. It'll take some time. Use some restraint however. It's like lifting weights. You start light and increase over time. Increase the power your partner puts into the kicks gradually. When your taking the kicks put your weight on the leg that is beeing kicked. So your upper thigh muscles are under constant pressure. If your partner starts out to hard just tell him to go lighter on you.

yea.. i believe getting kicked is one of the most direct way to get ur muscles used to the impacts in fights.. howeva, all those standard exercises are still very important..

Better yet, let somebody cane you with a hardwood stick while you're doing squats. That'd be hardcore, bro. Hell yeah, man...how chuck norris would THAT shit be...youtube that shit and you'd be a legend.
