  • SAVATE KICKBOXING USA! "Choisy le Roi USA"!

    NEWS:

After an agreement with Msr. Gilles Le Duigou (of the International Federation of Savate in France and trainer of fighters) to make a brother club in the US to the famous Choisy le Roi club outside Paris (home of the most French and International Savate Kickboxing Champions), our official club name is now :

"Choisy le Roi USA Savate Club"
of the New Jersey Savate Federation

The President of the Choisy le Roi club in Paris, Mr. Le Duigou and I are all happy to have this brotherhood (the first of it's kind) among Savate clubs in the world.

When training in France, it was the Choisy le Roi club that made us feel like home.
I soaked their ring with my sweat (and a little blood)!

Our fighters will now fight under the banner of
    "Choisy le Roi USA".

Our club is STILL part of
    THE NEW JERSEY SAVATE FEDERATION
(the most active Savate entity in the USA!)

We are hoping to develop more clubs in the New Jersey Savate Federation both for intra- and inter club competitions and for international matches.

Feel free to contact us for training info at

      Website

      Hey Phillyman!,

      Our website is down below.

We are a Mixed Martial Arts academy, bringing you arts from around the world. Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Kali, Silat and more.

The CHOISY LE ROI USA SAVATE CLUB trains/fights out of the
EAST COAST CENTER FOR JEET KUNE DO in New Jersey.

(This training is PURE Boxe Francaise Savate; using methodology from French Savate clubs. It's not mixed in with the other arts.)

We are working on a website now for the NJ SAVATE FEDERATION.

BRISTOL SAVATE CLUB is one of the older clubs in the NJ/PA area. It think they have a lot of women, but I know they have at least two guys out of there that competed in the last Assaut competition.

Hope you can hook up with someone and get started on your training! We'll be hosting some more seminars with fighters and teachers in the coming months.

      Peace!

        Have we trained together?

        Iceman,
My name is Mike Brewer, and in looking through these posts, I noticed that your name looked really familiar. Have we ever trained together? I lived with Paul Vunak for a while, and I suspect that's where I may know you, but it was a while ago, and I met so damned many people out there, it's hard to keep it all straight sometimes. Anyway, write and let me know. My e-mail address is MikeBCuttingEdge@qwest.net. Talk to you later.

            Philly,
Paul is probably a better person to ask, and his number is in just about every issue of Black Belt, but I'll try and answer it for you. You might also talk to Roy Harris, who sometimes posts here. In my experience, it varied a little from person to person. In some cases, people that visited from other states would come in and learn Paul's foundation material for Apprentice Instructor. Most times this would happen on their third or fourth trip, although a few people who had strong JKD backgrounds earned their Apprentice Instructorship on the first or second trip. Apprentice Instructors, in my experience with Voo, were mainly certified so that they could put a small group together and train the material that they had learned more often. Also, Paul believes (as do most good instructors) that you learn best by teaching, because you're forced to answer questions through personal experimentation. It was a little different for the people who lived near him and attended group class, though. Most of the group that trained regularly at the Wednesday class had to put in a lot more time to reach any kind of instructorship level, and they stayed at their rank for much longer, probably because they didn't need to go start a club to get their own training done. Generally, If people came out 6 times or more, and had the work ethic to have trained the material at home, they got their Phase One. It wasn't just a matter of time though. Paul is very concerned about making sure people are able to DO, so it's more a quality of application thing. He has never cared too much about how much martial history or culture you know, or whether you can tell him the indonesian name for a pak sao, but he does want you to know how to fight. Again, it took a lot more work for the folks who lived there to get to Phase one than people from other places, but that was based (in my opinion) on the fact that we were able to train with him more, and maybe he figured we should have to work a little more. Also, when he could see us every week (or every day) he could afford to be more critical and picky about what we were doing right and wrong, so he had the ability to demand a little more from the local group. I'd say that if you're an apprentice, put in some time and get a small group together, and then make a couple of trips to Paul's and ask him what you need work on for your Phase One. He's the best one to tell you.
            Mike
