I think it's because K-1 is not aired here in the states. If it is I don't know about it or it's not advertised. If I knew when it was on I would watch it.

Thats strange. Considering one of the qualification tournaments is held in Hawaii. Used to be Vegas.

Well, if it is aired on ESPN, ESPN2, or PPV it's not advertised because I've not ever seen it. I think I watched it once or twice on ESPN2 but it was like years (5 or 6) ago.

Weird. Then again you didn't miss much. The Americans where...whats the word I'm looking for...oh yeah. Horrible. Even Randy Kim from S-Korea looked like a pro compared to them. And thats bad.

Hi Scott, that's from a fighters standpoint which I can understand if your not yet a top player
However I do noot see many messages here on K1 either even though it is the Top promotion with the best standup fighters of the World

Might that be because Americans are only interested in something when Americans are a major part of it

UFC is not aired in my country neither was Pride and the K1 only since 2 years and never live, however dutch martial artists found ways around it, afterall there is such a thing as the Internet isn't there? and something called P2P
So if you know about it, and if this is not the only MA forum you visit, you should, then you could get it

BTW we do not have ANY PPV at all, just does not exist in my country and I think not in most European countries

I think right now the US combat sport market is kind of supersaturated with MMA promotions like UFC, Tapout, KOTC, Pride, and local promotions in every state. I haven't heard anything about K-1 for at least a few years...
From what I can observe, Muay Thai is becoming ever so slightly more popular due to it's ability to compliment grappling arts for MMA type competitions...which is really kind of depressing to me. That being said, K-1 isn't promoted very well in the states...if it is being promoted at all.

*As an aside...K-1 isn't really even a muay thai tournament as their rules are just a bit too overbearing...

Essentially, the only martial arts you will usually see on Tv these days are MMA "shows" or events, flashy so-called "Xtreme Martial Arts" competitions like those put on by Paul Mitchell that basically look like Karate Kid on Ice...and really, really old kickboxing and muay thai matches from, like, 2002.

I'm with JD on this one...if I knew when it was on...I'd watch it.

Here are the trends I'm seeing with Martial arts in the US mainstream
1950's - judo Pretty sure this is a result of WWII
1960's - kung fu A'la Bruce Lee and Gordon Liu and the Shaw Brothers
1970's - karate Thank Mas Oyama and Sonny Chiba
1980's - ninjitsu Stephen Hayes and los tortugas
1990-1994ish - kickboxing tournaments like K-1 or on smaller scales everywhere
1994+ - Mixed martial arts competitions stemming from the first UFC.

Essentially the mainstream American consciousness is alike to anything else in this world...things fade and alternatives exclude.
Still...these days people don't know the difference between karate and kung fu, but could probably tell you the difference between a kimura and a triangle...

If I remember correctly some MMA events, perhaps PRIDE lot's of Japanese fighters in them, used to be aired on Eurosports Fightclub 3 or 4 years ago before the French government banned it. Could be wrong though.

K-1 doesn't stand a chance in the U.S......not as long as the UFC is getting as much attention as it is. You can't turn on SPIKE t.v. and not see a UFC show. It's always something with UFC weather it be Ultimate Fighter or UFC Unleashed or UFC something. In my opinion they have gone overboard with UFC.
