hmmm, the words of a wise man... we arent really friends but we dont not like eachother either we just want to see who would win a fight, its most likely gonna be at my muay thai place, cause id rather have a person their to ref then just sock it out with him on the side of the road somewhere lol... i think we're having everything in the match, im taller and most likely stronger but he out weighs me a bit, not in muscle though... if u get wat i mean

Garland has given you a lot of good advice. I'm glad you set it up as a Sparring match instead of a fight to the death street brawl. Anybody who has been training for 12 years is a dangerous fighter, don't take him too lightly.

My friend was a wing chun guy and we used to spar all the time. I can offer this. Understand wing chuns strength which is centerline control, they do it well. They deliever alot of fast punches and are smooth but they lack the force of boxing punches but they can definitely knock you back or off balance or frustrate you. When moving in especially for the clinch, which is moving into their centerline vortex, use some low line knees to upset their balance, use knees from every angle also use the elbows. My friend was a bit hard to clinch but once I got used to how to navigate in and do damage then pull out it worked. Use the push kick, low into the mid thigh, since it will be frustrating, use the leg kicks with fakes and feints to throw him off. The wing chun elbows, knees, kicks and what they have as a hook is not as powerful as the muay thai arsenal.
I was successful with a cross, lead hook and rear leg kick alot.
I would say play your game, pick your shots, use set ups from all ranges, high to low, when you get your shots make them count with the muay thai power and speed.
Use the clinch tactics wisely and efficiently be wary if your clinch is not up to snuff and the wing chun guy has alot of experience. That misbalance might make you overconfident on the inside and you might have to pay for that.
Try to make him advance and close then hammer him each time the counterattack off of that.
The more calm and frustrating you can be to him, the more power will come to you since he will feel like his techs just arent hurting you or doing any good.
IF this is not a FRIENDLY match, then use caution. They will use finger jabs and thumb hooks, so your elbows should go for eye sockets, throat, temple, etc as well as kicks and hard direct knees into the groin. You answer something like that in kind.((Also there is where alot of old school bare knuckle tactics even the field because on the top the toe in kicks, finger pokes, hair pulling, stomps, trips, forearms, palm strikes, slaps etc really work well in this type of situation and really why the old stuff is great--not for the ring fighting but for adding to the fighting arsenal)).
But I advise a more humane hard sparring match instead of an all out street fight where someone could get really hurt.
I didnt like my friend much since he was always trying to tell him how great his teacher was and how great his style was but he never got the best of me, ever and it frustrated him to death. So keep it on the safe side.
Just a few thoughts.

Well, people get into martial arts for alot of reasons, garland. And some become egotistical and seemingly omnipotent. A friend can easily become overbearing to the point of nauseum as this one had because he thought he was given the keys of the martial arts universe by a chinese master. So in the end, this had to be tested to be seen. It ended with him constantly going back to the drawing board and finally having to desperately go outside his chosen style to stay in the game BUT with his ego and mouth intact. So as you can see a friend can easily slip away into that madness and frankly not much of friend worth keeping. Eventually he gave up wing chun and shut up.

my younger brother has the same problem with one of his friends.. his friend goes to one of those really crappy taekwondo places that wear full body protective clothing when there is any chance of hitting eachother and go up grades extremly fast for no work... now i do know guys who do taekwondo and are very good fighters because they are alo very fit, but this guy has it in his brain that he can 'rapture internal organs with a single hit' lol my muay thai place is big into body conditioning like i said earlier.. and one thing we do is standing there while guys body shot and round house u to body and head and thighs nonstop which is good, gets u used to getting hit but we also do 500 sit ups every time we finish the class, sometimes wore if there are more people.. i know wat ur thinking 5oo sit ups???? bullshit well i got to say after the first 150 ur body goes numb as long as u dont stop even for a second u can do it, which means that everyone at the muay thai place who are regulas there lke me n my bro have very 'defined' six packs n my bro said to his mate 'come on then hit me as hard as u can in the gut, i wanna see if u can rapture anything' so his mate does it, screams in pain because he twisted is wrist hurt a couple of his fingers, so for a couple weeks he stopped going on about the usual bullshit 'muay thai is the worst fighting style around, taekwondo is the best fighing style around, i can rapture internal oragans with a single punch, i can break bones with my kicks, my friends at taekwondo are the best fighters around, etc' even after another of my bros friends who competes around the world in taekwondo told him taekwondo is not a street fightin style and when vs most other fighting styles is fails... badly
so finally my bro does the obvious thing and says he wants the guy to come down to our muay thai place to try one training and to also vs my bro, but the idiot sayed nah it would be too boring........ i actually want to hurt him a bit.. not alot just enough to teach him to smart talk other fighting styles....especially when ur place sucks n ur getting exilarated through the gradings even though u suck

Ive practiced both Wing Chun and Muay Thai, and have to say I think Wing Chun has a lot to offer as a fighting art if you understand it and are good at it,its problem of course is unlike Muay Thai the Wing Chun practicioners dont get to practice with real timing, accuracy and power,no denying though that kicks to the knee joints/groin,eye and throat strikes can be dangerous so if this bout was real and a good one of those shots landed then it could be a fight stopper.
Muay Thai athletes are however conditioned to take a lot of pain and keep going to find a way to win.
Also there is the size and weight factor to take into consideration,if your opponent is a lot taller and heavier then your up against it no matter what style he does!.
Georges tactics sound about right, feint use the low kick and look for puncjes to close the distance then get a good neck clinch and knee away.

Fire cobra, you brought up an excellent point which is height and weight. My wing chun friend was taller and weighted more than me and at first, I thought i would get to clinch position alot easier than I did. His inside line was well protected and I had to reach up but once i adjusted to inside and outside postion, passing the arm and other tie ups, things progressed smoother on the inside and I broke him down from there. I got off a knee and spin takedown as well. Also the short knees to the thighs, inside and out work well to spike the legs, keep the low line occupied to vary the attack at different ranges. Conditioning did play a huge part as well. He rarely hurt me or do anything to stop my attacks or counterattacks. He was rugged but didnt have the ability to outlast me or do any damage to my body because of all the muay thai training and condiitioning.

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves. Albert Einstein
When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.

There are no second chances.

imo if you dont have a ton of skill yet then use strong kicking, get on the bag and do loads of reps of round kicks as prep and when the fight happens kick 100% power every kick and kick him to bits. dont worry if he blocks or anything just keep pounding away with the kicks.
easiest way for beginners to win is overwhelming force by concentrating on a few techniques only and briniging the power up to the highest level possible through the use of rep work.
all imo.
