    What are some of the best ways to condition or shins?

    thai pads or bannana trees. not regular trees or whacking your shins with stuff.

        bannana tree's are rubbish thaydont even use them i thailand anymore to condition there shins, thay used to because thay didnt have heavy bags.

        the best way to condition your shins is to do alot of rep work on a very heavy bag with your right kick and switch kick and im talking about at least 100 reps at first with shin pads and when you get more conditioned you can take off the pads and do more reps, also checking kicks on pad work and sparring will also help.

          Yeah, agree about the banana trees, those were special drills not what you see now. Its the dumb dvd and tv shows with that shit. They were used specifically for a specific purpose once a long time ago.

          Shin Conditioning is done over TIME, you cant rush it or you will do undue damage that will set you back.

          Dont smash anything into it or kick trees or anything ridiculous.

          Start slowly using heavy bags of differing densities, thai pads, use shin guards for drills until the shins got strong. Build your kick impact and repetition over time, also learn how to impact with your shin correctly.

          Its not overnight, dont let anyone sell it to you that way, its slow, its progressive and it allows you to continue trading day after day as you get stronger and stronger, thats the thai way. thats how we do it here.

            I really like the Banana tree idea and think they will of been used by most boxers years ago,my teacher had me kicking leaves on trees and running through tree branches/leaves to help dodge punches and a host of other "old school" training methods that are everybit as valuable today as they were years ago if they are understood.

              Exactly fire cobra, but it became almost theatrical now in what they do. My teacher knows all the drills and how they are used and nothing really resembled what they are doing and telling people to do now. They took one idea of it and ran it into the ground.

                Hi George.

                You probably see more of what the people nowadays are doing as " Boran" exercises /training methods than I do so I take your point.
                As you know Im thinking only of how I was taught some old methods and they deffinatly work and have a place in the modern training of a boxer.

                Your teacher seems very well versed in Muay Im sure you appreciate him as good teachers are hard to come by for the farang are they not George!.

                  Agreed. I think alot of old drills become new again additionally by some updating, but of course you can use them as is as well. Look at the old indian wrestling bodyweight stuff that became a steady routine again for alot of fighters. I just felt the boran stuff is marketed and sold now by everyone and everything there is a huge distortion and overhype that it becomes ridiculous and i was sort of commenting on that more than anything.

                  Good teachers in anything are hard to come by. I am lucky also to have a farang teacher who has trained in the stuff for decades and he is the roadmap to simplicity and economy and most of all understanding without any sort of manipulations or ego. I am indeed very lucky.

                    bag work. kick a heavy bag 100 times a day for each leg. they will get tough quickly.
