Anybody know anything about this school?

The Kru is called Jeff Thai..he apparantly has trained with 11 masters in Thailand and teaches Muay Chaiya,does anyone know of the gym? and its standard?.

never heard of the first one but seems to be a well equipped gym, the other one claims to teach many old styles which is good if is true. One thing I don't like is the muay kard chiek thing, I asked about it in Thaland four years ago and my teacher laughed when he heard that, he said there's never been that style in Thailand. That comes from Europe and goes along the muay boran thing which I did many years ago and has little to do with ancient styles.

Actually the infomation isnt for me im trying to find out any info for a 3rd party.

The first guy says he teaches Muay Chaiya but doesnt follow the structure of that art that Im slightly familiar with,perhaps George can help given that he is from the USA and the 2 schools are located there.

No problems, I just know a little about muay kaard chiek because I went to a muay boran gym.
Yes the best way is going there and train a bit to see what they do, surely George and other Americans can answer better than me.

Both schools are muay boran, just generic mixtures of stuff. One does teach muay chaiya but its from muay boran and not from kru khetr or kru tong from what i can tell. I sent the links to the teachers here a while back ago and most people here felt it was just muay boran. If someone does muay chaiya they usually are blazing their link and heritage to some master as you can see here on the boards as well as citing the 11 masters in detail! Havent been to the school but i get alot of inquires on this school which started months ago. My take on it is he is muay thai guy, with muay thai skills, and probably was educated and found the muay boran program and did that. He probably has the basics and maybe picked up intermeditate muay chaiya but in terms of that style nobody seems to know him here.

I certainly would like to know about the schools in further detail and if anyone gets any info specifically about his teachers and what is taught let us know. But thats my feeling I also asked several other foreigners who trained in the systems and they sort of agreed with my assessment though on this topic I am not the most knowledgeable and most adept. Best thing to do is try it out if someone can and let us know.

Yeah George we can see whats going on,what caught my attention was when the lad who asked about the gym(he has trained there twice) said the school teaches Muay Chaiya,I asked what he practiced and he replied pad work a bit of clinch etc,that got me asking on here.

I dont think there is anything wrong with saying you do Muay Thai(if your genuine) and aspects of Muay Boran such as Mae Mai/Lul Mai but draw the line when gyms say they teach the traditional styles when they clearly dont.

Hi firecobra. I agree wholeheartedly with your point about being upfront about what you teach. I think its totally acceptable to teach what you want in a honest manner. If he teaches muay thai and parts of muay boran thats ok for sure. Like i said i met a few muay thai guys who went and learned muay boran to teach like at the school level as a job. So they had skills that they could use to make a living. But they know they are teaching a phys ed form for safety and the know the difference between that and the true styles and the difference between all that and muay thai which is excellent.

I do like to train different things now and again and I remain devoted to muay thai, i actually enjoy with the old style guys and the weapons guys when i can. I learn alot each time.

Ive learnt Mae Mai and Luk Mai,I can see where they can fit in to my boxers games and I enjoy training and teaching them alongside regular Muay Thai skills.

I learnt Krabee Krabong sequences in Natasin Witayalai in Sukothai on several occasions and love to practice the weapons to,however I know the difference beetween what would be used for real and what wouldnt or couldnt.

The beauty of the Thai Arts to me is in the simplicity,economy and small points,I also think they look beautifull when done correctly and sooo cool to watch.

Thats great, firecobra, you have a real open approach to learning and developing and i admire that alot.

I mean i respect and admire my teacher in the us because he came to thailand year after year, and learned each system to completion, and i know what a truly hard job that was before things were famous on top of translating books and manuscripts to further enhance his knowledge so i know it can be done and its totally possible for a foreigner to gain access to the total thai martial arts picture if dedicated. He encourgaed me last time to learn massage, healing techs and meditation which i am slowly absorbing too which is helping me along my path.

Muay Thai is a great art unto itself, there is alot there under the surface I am slowly getting at.

Its a wonderful thing and at this point in mylife I am glad i took the time to learn it here.

I try to keep a open mind but not so open as my brain falls out!.

I to studied Nuat Phen Boran in Wat Pho 1995 and Chiang Mai hospital 2002 as well as several other schools each time I visit Thailand.

I hope to move to the land of smiles for at least half of the year in 2-3 yrs time,hopefully my body and mind will let me be able to absorb more of the Thai Arts hopefully the old and the new.
