  • new to muay thai

hi, i've been taking classes for muay thai kickboxing. I want to get into shape so i will be more agile and more flexible. Do you have any suggestions on how i can add to my class and build my agility and loss my weight faster. I am around 190 lbs. I want to be fast and deliver strong attacks any suggestions are welcome.

I am dieting and doing muay thai classes 4 times a week.

Stretch "Everyday" for 20 minutes. Especially when you are not training in the MT gym.

Daily stretching is a major part of any kickboxer's routine but not the only part.

If you are a beginning MT practioner, running may hurt your flexibility. I would suggest stretching and kicking. Hundreds and hundreds of kicks on a heavy bag, even thousands of kicks. If you don't have access to a heavy bag kick the air but be sure to wear knee support when kicking the air.

stretching not only improves your overall health but can help you add 20% more muscle to your body. and it will be functional muscle not just for show. 190 is not that bad, how tall are you? the best way to improve your muay thai is to just do it. if you want to be a good swimmer then you swim running will not improve your swimming, it will help you with the cardio but the time you spent running you could have swam improving cardio and techniques. same with fighting, if you want to be a fighter then you fight. sure running will help but it is a different type of stamina you are building. listen to what your coaches say and spend alot of time training to fight, even when away from the gym.

If you are determined to jog just be sure to stretch before and after your jog. A good stretch (after your run) should last about 20 minutes.

No, most people forget to stretch when they run. If you want to be good at MT you need flexible legs thus stretching before and after a run is a must.

As a beginner you want to work on your foundation skills in a safe progessive manner and thats includes warmups and stretching.
