how do you find out if your school is legit?

  • #2
ask some questions to people that can help you find ut the answer. what questions do you have? why do you think it might not be legit? who is your teacher? what is he teaching? alot of things will go into finding out unless he is an outright fraud which those can be spotted from a mile away.

Neither one of those styles are MMA although MT makes a good base system.

          Beaner,

Find out more about his background and whether he originally trained in Kung Fu before moving on the MT bandwagon and simply adjusted his classes to look like MT.

From what you've said so far, I'm dubious.

            A question

Can you watch a class or try it free first. Could you try it for a month. If your interested in self defense. Does he train fighters. If so go watch a fight and see how they do. Not all instructors are created equal. You could very well find non instructors who are better than some legit instructors. First figure out what your interests are.

Fitness, Sport or Self Defense. If its only for fitness then you just need a good cardio. If its for MMA you might want to find a gym that specialized in MMA. Then they might be able to recomend a MT coach in the area. If its for self defense you might what to find a good reality based school (if available).

Hope this helps. What state are you in someone might be able to advise on a school in you area.

              Hey

Sorry didn't look to see where you were. Tim Mousel is a full instructor under Master Chai and is in Texas (I think). He might be able to help you find someone in your area.

              Good luck.

main thing is watch the class, ask how long and where he trained. But the thing is do os see if you like the class first, the way its run, class size, instruction...if so then go to the instructor and ask nicely in conversation form where he trained, how long, whats his approach to teaching thai boxing, maybe does he have guys who fight or has he fought. You can extract alot of info that way without being confrontational or directly questioning his credentials. If you have no backround to evaluate, then maybe put up some info here and some people might be able to help.
