    George,

Perhaps its a term thats just known by the Thai people so no real need to say it if you see what I mean,I had never heard it in camps as such either until I asked about doing some technical sparring, the guys didnt know what I meant, later I saw a coach "sparring" with another lad and asked him what he called what he was doing, he replied Len Muay, after that I asked several other coaches about the name for that type of training and I was given Cherng Muay or Len Muay.

      Hi firecobra,
I wasnt really in disagreement. I still think its over terminology left over from the old days. It might be correct terminology but its not in use in every camp, it depends probably on the ajarn or teachers, and my bet more in use by older ones then newer ones. I tried it out a few times, one trainer laughed and kicked me in the ass. It was kind of funny actually.

I think in modern muay thai, its part of an on going process everyone understands and does. In terms of timing training, I think everything you do in camp can be adjusted as needed to that thing which you are weakest at. lets saying my timing is really off on blocking a roundkick and returning a roundkick. The power and speed might be there so on the pads the trainer might shift to working alot on the timing of it, then maybe get the best kicker to work with me on isolating with the shin pads on, or in the light sparring work against guys who are good at it. Everything they do has levels of adjustment, so its in everything, its assimilated in.

Its hard to explain. But thats my view on it. Its more organic and less fragmented than one would think. The trainer keeps adjusting and bolstering your strengths and fixing the weaknesses.

Just my views on it. Its interesting and I like to hear others opinions on it.

Yeah George I understand your point.
Hey how did you know I need work on blocking and returning a round kick?! actually its seeing the kick coming at me thats my sticky point at the moment! my coach has such a quick and deceptive left kick that I only see the ones he wants me to see!.

          Hi firecobra!

I hear ya. its one of those things that has to have the hair trigger reaction to it, too slow and its read and countered. I have been working on because my trainer is exceptional at blocking, grabbing or just recountering a roundkick.

I guess like we talked about theres alot of timing and distance training in there to work on.

I was thinking alot today about the conversation here on the forum. I think so much is the small things linked together that the good trainers and teachers know how to link them for you and build you into that fighter. So its hard to read this from the outside , we search for names for things, try to define this or that in a western mind but its about really understanding, being able to apply then being able to teach it outward. its on the keys to muay thai that i think is misunderstood.

My teacher told me some words that keep in my mind until now.

"Ask by your fists, I'll reply by my feet"

A roughly conclusion is ....do it not only talk....

I love the way many people here react with this forum.

Go practice. Maintain ur sharpness, fix ur weakness.

            Respects to u all,

Yeah George its al in the small things isnt it,non telegraphic delivery, breathing, catching your opponent on his unguarded moment etc.

Gaining the right distance to be able to defend and attack is critical isnt it George, and being able to beat the defence of your opponent with either a quick non telegraphic attack or a deceptive attack isnt easy with a good person in front of you.
