  • Thai knife?

I enquired a little about Thai knife systems but there seems to be little or nothing, only knife
throwing. What I saw was a copycat of standard KK (not sword) techniques and movements
adapted to a knife, so not really a knife system.
    Here is some knife throwing:

If there once was a Thai knife system, would it have used such well balanced knifes for throwing or would they rather have used any kind of knife that was at hand? What do you think?

Knives may well have been used for throwing in the battlefield, but I think
they must have been used for close combat as well.
What is surprising is that knife systems have flourished in the Philippines
and they also come from battlefields, while in Thailand you have sword,
spear, staff, halbred that come from there and that are still taught but no knife
      system ecxept for throwing.

Sure I think that at war you must have your weapons and also everything you can
find if the situation is desperate.

I once heard of a story about a man named Sin from the city of Tak in Thailand, who lived a few hundred years ago.

During the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, he ordered to open fire against the Burmese invaders with artillery, which was the right decision from a military point of view, but nonetheless against the will of the king and therefore against the law. Sin and about five hundred of his men would have been sentenced to death later, if they hadn’t escaped from there.

It is said, that after the escape Sin gathered even more fighters from all over Thailand in order to free the country from the Burmese. Because they were only few and the situation was desperate, he built small units of five fighters per unit, who were capable of using several kinds of weapons (Awud), without necessarily carrying them with them all the time. From that they were very hard to detect and one of their specialties should have been to infiltrate enemy lines with flat knifes (Mied Zuy) only, in order to take out a some armed soldiers and then use their weapons for further fighting.

Some people say that was probably the beginning of Asian guerilla tactics, but for all I know this strategy successfully ended with the establishment of the new capital of Thonburi at the end of 1767 and the coronation of a great king named Taksin.

Maybe somebody pulled a joke on me, but if that story was true, there must have already been a fighting system for knifes in Thailand back then, which was not bound to a single weapon type and instead even used the opponent’s weapons. What do you think?

PPROD:Get rid of the advertisements for pahuyuth at the bottom of your posts. Thats advertising. Pull off the tags. Its an alert you are a cult member and with 4 posts again with an agenda to spread bad gospel. Also the spellings awud and mied zuy are translated from thai to german to english which leads to confusion. You are just stealing stuff from endless pahuyuth jargon plagarized from books. See the other threads on this from previous times. No need to go further on it.

There are systems of knife its just some people didnt study or write about them, doesnt mean they are not there or taught.

Awud Mied I believe its called, but I dont rate it (although I guess it depends on what you want out of it). You can you tube it to have a closer look. Personally I'd go with kali/Escrima or go to amazon and look up prison knife fighting.

Awud Mied is garbage spread by the pahuyuth guys. all that stuff is made up and bad, likely to get you killed or beaten up badly more than anything.

Here's a nice clip of Thai knife or sword dance, looks like a northern style (also the rhythmic music) and the desription says it was an hilltribe man performing:
                              YouTube - Thai Knife Dance

If you let the video go there's another one following with a kid doing focus pads quite fast.
