  • mae sawk vs. stick

Very intelligent use of mae sawk, I think defence would be problematic
and leave too many open targets while standing up against a stick, even
    more against a sword.
It's the first time I see mae sawk used in real combat, and also the monkey
footwork applied in real combat not just jumping around aimlessly, big difference of movement.

Nice. That looks like Loki. We've been working a lot of the Mae Sawks vs other weapons ourselves. They are very formidable and one of my favorites.

Nothing is better than daab!mae sawk is a piece of shit, for losers who apt to defence most of the times!real attacker always attacks and won't lose one sword hand just to defend with mae sawk!2 sword wielding hands are twice more powerful than one hand of sword with a piece of shit on other!afterall, mae sawk is for demonstration purposes alone!

I learned from reliable source that Mae Sawk can well be an offensive weapon, and I have to say I was a bit quick to comment on the video as I never practiced with mae sawks nor do I know their real history.
The best thing is always to try for yourself like the clip shows.

Yeah!see what'll happen after you hit a person with double swords with mae sawk?you'll be destroyed!

"if your opponent knows nothing about sword fighting, you're gonna get cut;but
if your opponent knows Something about sword fighting, you're gonna get cut real bad" so,against two swords, taking mae sawk is a foolish thing you can ever do;when it's to staff, mae sawk is really better bcoz staff's don't cut your limbs as they're of wood!Rofl.

Hi firecobra, yes I also only "knew" the mae sawk usage as a phys ed one but there is much more to them that that as I was told.

I think the best way to know for real is to try like they do in the clip. Also it's not going to be an endless hit and block thing like most videos show.
It's not an edged weapon but a good hit can disable you or put you out for good.

There are edged weapons, and there are impact weapons. The Mae Sawk is obviously an impact weapon.....though I believe it was Master Chai's son who had a pair with a blade inset into the under side of each of his. For someone to say they are a "bullshit" is obviously coming from some one who has never strapped a pair on on gone for it. Watching the video it looks very similar to one of the drills that we were taught, but I'm not seeing any footwork. Don't take this the wrong way because I know Loki earned his DB title and he knows how to move so this clip shouldn't be taken any way other than one angle of attack and counter-attack out of many.

First off, think about this from a Thai boxing angle. Strap a pair on and throw combinations. Punches and elbows have just become a hell of a lot more lethal. You can work in your knees, round kicks, and teeps. From a block/counter stand point the Mae Sawks have a lot of surface area to stop/counter an attack. Wherever you can move your arms you have a solid barrier to counter a strike. Let one slide down so the rope catches your wrist and you now have a short club and have extended the reach of your weapon. Obviously good footwork is key, but that goes for open hand and weapons alike.

Against open hand and impact weapons they are very formidable. Against bladed weapons the percentages aren't as high, but it's better than facing them open handed, and if you can work to the weak side and close you stand a chance of shutting it down. We'll go full contact with impact weapons and bladed trainers. As close as you can get without going with live blades.

                    Best regards,
                    William
