    i would like to get informative responses to this question please. i am a combative kickboxer. and while sparing a few days ago, i injured my shin while executing a kick. we were sparing (moderate contact)... i had my partner cornered and he began to
    panic and began to block... as he did he lifted his knee as i threw a mui tai kick to his leg... it was to late for me to stop the kick in motion and i ended up bruising my shin badly... the swelling was instantanious... i imediately began icing it and took antinflamitories for the swelling... it is improved, but i would like to prevent its occurance in the future... so here's my question:

    does anyone know any exercises or training regiments to strengthen the shin bones? (please, only exercises that are effective and used by you personally...)

    if so would you please describe exercises and regiments... where i live there are no other places to gather this type of info....

    i would like to have shins of steel and i figured who better to ask than thaiboxers who have the toughest, most unbreakable legs
    in the arts...

    Want stronger bones???...Got Milk??

    No really...yeah taking more calcium will strengthen bones...

    But no Thai Boxer has Stronger bones than the other due to any sort of training....the only reason why some guys seem to have
    "indestructable" shins of steel is because they have deadened the nerves of their shins so that they dont feel much or any pain when they're struck full contact...
    ever see the clip where this guy throws a kick and it gets blocked kinda like how your kick was, and his leg just snapped and turned into rubber?..the nerves on his shins were so dead that he didn't even know his leg was broke until he tried to stand on it again! (sick sick clip btw)

    You can condition your shins by kicking the thai pads alot and working the heavy bag...dont do any of this rubbing steel poles on your legs B.S....kicking the pads regularly is enough to toughen up your shins for hard contact....

    but as far as I know ...other than taking calcium supplements...there are no other ways to harden the bones in your legs....hey man...some people are just born with strong/weak bones so.....

      I heard folks say that they used to lightly tap their shins with escrima sticks while watching tv or whatever and eventually they "conditioned" the shin to not feel the pain. I do mean lightly, just up and down the shin.

      Please, if this is an old wives tale let us know. I'm just mentioning what I've heard.

        I do the same thing many karatekas do to harden their knuckles. I lightly kick a wooden pole. As it hurts less and less, I kick it harder and harder. I am carefull to progress slow enough so that I don't injure my shin, but it is sore the day after - but not bruised.

          Cool,

          My instructor actually told me about this technique. His shins are like steel. I did it for a while and like you said. They would be sore, but not bruised. Bruised shins take about a year to heal, at least it seems that way. Nothing like a huge knot on your shin to make you work on your hand techniques and kicking with your weak let...

          I used an escrima sitck and just tapped them, up and down, while watching TV. Right now I have one shin that feels no pain and one that DOES!!!!


          Keep the training up and kicks low,

            I'll definatly try the escrima thing.

            I saw the Thai fighter who kicked too much on your web page.

            That scares me, because my most powerful strike is the right Thai round kick.

            I think I'll be a lot more cautious in using it from now on.

            I guess no matter how much you train them, shins can still be broken. Thanx for the pointer.

              conditioning shins

              I was told by my kenpo instructor to do the same thing - tap my shins with a kali stick. I have however, since been informed that this is a bad idea.
