The main reason I train Muay Thai is health. MT will get you in shape very quickly and help keep you there.
I would like to do some amateur ring fights in 3 years (I just started training 4 months ago), but I have a feeling my fiancee would not approve, and I wouldn't want to worry her, so I'm 50/50 about ever going into the ring.
Self Defense? Not really - I'd go to a shooting range or a Kali class for that.
Why MT instead of, say, mountain bicycling or basketball? The class setting has it so everyone in the class is pushing everyone else just a little harder, and the fact that you can get your head taken off during sparring helps take it up a notch. That, and sparring is just a lot of fun...
Oh yeah, and the mongkons and thai shorts just look so damn cool

I know this is gonna sound kinda corny, but that's alright.
I wanna be the Light Heavyweight Champion of the world in the UFC. I also wanna open up a school and compete in kickboxing. I love martial arts, but I have a special affinity for Muay Thai, it's such an awesome experience, training is the best thing in the world. I'm probably way in over my head, but that's alright. I work my ass off four hours a day, and my girlfriend and family back me up a hundred percent. I'm just gonna work hard and hope for the best. I'm a firm believer in the concept of the only person that can ultimately limit your growth is yourself. Nice thread by the way, Octavius.

I'm not a MT guy, but I got into the martial arts out of curiousity, and then found I was hooked. Then it became an obsession and I'm always thinking about it now!
As for goals, I just want to be the best I can. I'm not really interested in competing in the UFC, or K1 etc, but I would like to have the ability to help people and pass on my knowledge, but I know that will be a very long time away!!
I'm sure martial arts have done a lot for all of us. I think if I never got into martial arts, then I'd be a completely different person.
I was just thinking fight coreography in films sounds like a good job! I'm getting bored with my job at the moment and am considering a change!

My goals?
I want to get back in shape and have just a couple of more Muay Thai matches. I'd like a few more amateur matches, and I would like to fight professional at least ONCE before I retire. (I'm 33, and the clock is ticking...)
I also want to visit, train, and fight in Thailand. In that order. I have never been to Thailand yet, which bums me the **** out. But I figure to be there within two years if all goes according to plans.
Finally, I want to run my own Boxing/Kickboxing (Muay Thai) gym. Granted, we will need to offer other programs as well to supplement membership (income). I would like to open it in Northern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.
My reasons? Plain and simply... I *LOVE* Muay Thai! I have trained and cross-trained in a variety of other sports and marital arts. Nothing even comes CLOSE to meaning as much to me, or interesting me as much as Muay Thai.

i have three goals in life: serve god, help people, and achieve.
martial arts falls into all of those groups but i'll only discuss one.
i would like to one day be a fighter in the UFC. i train pretty hard considering i have no support what so ever. i work out with my self every day. hit the bag, lift weights, and stretch. i like stretch for like 15 minutes. hit the bag until i'm excausted. then i lift and do crunches.
I'm a firm believer in the concept of the only person that can ultimately limit your growth is yourself.
in fact goto go right no to work out
