  • Any decent schools in Charlotte, NC ?

Greetings everyone. New here and excited to have found out about it. I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a MT school in Charlotte. I see a few listed but has anybody heard anything about any of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I live in Charlotte and go to Black Belt USA. They teach Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Doe. The school is run by Master Dan King and his wife Dr. King who are both from Thailand. I don't have the phone number right now but they are listed in the book. I would highly recommend them.

      Website

      Okay, I found their website.

Sort of an interesting mix there (MT and TKD). I may stop by to check them out. Has anyone heard about this other guy named Rob Kelly? He is in Charlotte as well. Anyway, thanks again...

I also live in charlotte and was interested in doing some Muay Thai. How are the work outs over there? Do you guys spar on a regular basis? How long after signing up do you have to wait to spar? Do they train people to compete? If you guys spar is it TKD rules or thai...In the TKD sparring do you punch the head or is it olypic rules?

The TKD and Muay Thai are kept completely separate so I can't answer the TKD sparring questions.

To spar in MT you have to pass your first "pre-test" which usually takes a couple months to show that you know the basics. They just don't want a beginner to get hurt. The sparring class is only one night a week (Thursdays) but they have regular MT classes on Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, and Sat.

I honestly don't know. I would recommend giving Master King a call. He's a really nice guy and easy to talk to. However, he is on vacation this week.

So what about this guy named Rob Kelly. He is affiliated with Master Chai I guess and possibly oversaw Kings training from what I read somewhere. Do you know anything about him or is King the best in the area?
