Without an organization that prevents con artists and frauds in the realm of martial arts instruction, I think it would be a good thing to challenge the claims of some.
Ashida Kim is still ducking me.
Proof is in the pudding eh?
If and when I open my own school I will not advertise nor will I promote 'self defense'.
I will teach Jujutsu. Whatever you do with it is up to you.

He's a punk out to make money.
Lots of people have 'contraversial' stances on things. My school is somewhat eclectic. However we stand by what we teach and the principles are solid. Most people can see our perspective, they simply choose different paths.
When you get online and print books to make money from people then you should be willing to stand by what you say, or at least debate it.
I have much respect for those who share info and put it on the line. I approach them with an open mind. Punks like Ashida Kim preach and are not open to questions or discussion.
For that reason I have volunteered to fight him. Even if I lose at LEAST he'll prove that's he's not a total bitch.

I've seen or been involved in quite a few style vs. style challenges. I started in muay thai while in college, which is a great place to find other martial artists who think too much of themselves.
During college I fought people from tae kwon do, tang su do (?spelling?), shotokan, and a style of kung fu.
None of these could stand up to good muay thai technique in a standing fight.
Also, we occasionally get people from other styles coming into our dojo, and they want to fight. My instructors would allow them to fight a select few students, including myself. Typically they went home bruised and muttering to themselves.
This is just a function of the fact that few styles really concentrate on fighting anymore I think. And certainly there are good fighters in all styles of martial arts, but I think they typically don't go to other people's dojo's to piss them off.

One of my old schools (Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut Gwoon) that I used to train at was known for inviting people in for sparring. Didn't matter who you were. You could be from another school or just off the street. They would always make sure to film it too. Nobody that dared to come in ever won, I can assure you that. It was pretty crazy. It was a humble school in those days and was basically a small warehouse with concrete floors but everyone had heard of it. Some people really got hurt by trying to challenge our fighters but we never got sued. Lucky I guess. Here is the website of the school now. They have since moved and have really grown a lot. I no longer train over there (live across country now) but since the move I am pretty sure that they don't do that kind of stuff like they used to, although I know that they would never turn down a challenger if one were to come to their door.

During my TKD days I was getting pretty cocky and a ta NAtional BB camp. I asked a guy
that was known for being an ass kicker. to " kick my ass"
He was about 6' 3" 240 me being 6' 5" 230.
I started out about 1/2 to 3/4 contact I blocked all his kicks and jammed others. When he stepped in to swing
I beat him in and hit him with a nice 6 point combo body chin body chin body chin(upper cut right left overhands)
He retreated and I backed off then he came in I relaxed and let him swing and tried to block... He threw a mean right hook and broke two of my ribs ... I tried to continue but had to stop...
We never got to spar again.......I would have been going full contact if I knew he was really going to hurt me.....

A successful instructor I know used to get challenged quite frequently (he did have and still has a huge ego, so I guess it is understandable) and he would always say "Okay, but first sign this waiver." 90% of the time this would shut the challenger right down, just thinking about grievous bodily injury.

Anybody who insists which style is better is naive...
Each martial art and instructor has something to offer...
Karate is good for the kids and learning to kick high and clean , the slow kata are good when your body is weak or injured.
The footwork is too sloppy and so is the puching , however it did also teach me to fight in both natural and southpaw.
Tkd , again good kicking but the rest is just too sloppy .
Kungfu , yeah depending on which style , good block and palming off skills and short range striking skills , i enjoyed this martial art.
the other half i reckon is good when you cant kickbox when your injured or resting..
Kickboxing and muaythai my favorites based on all round skills.
Combined with the good points of other styles especially the slow arts Qi gong on my days off .
i am sick of being told which art is supreme . I know all arts have good points and bad points.
