It's obvious you've never dealt with true TKD white belt stick fighting. That side kick is the only defense.

I think I now those guys... Burt and Craig kollars they operate USTA I think they are in mobile Al. I never had a chance to spar them when I was in TKD but I heard they are very good at the punching and kicking... Where did you find this picture???? Check out the USTA/ITA homepage i don't have it you could probably do a google search and see a more recent photo..

About the picture did you really expect to see a practical defense of a stick (or any weapon) from a TKD photo...

It appears to be a variation of the "dip" although one would think that one's dancing partner might get upset if you mussed up their hair like that.
