  • cutting weight

I have a fight in a week and I walk around at 155-56. For this fight I have to cut down to 145 (not an ounce over). any advice?

Don't bother. You're too far over. Even if you manage it (which I doubt) you'll be so weak and dehydrated you'll get the crap beat out of you. Or worse.

wana loose weight fast? get rolaids or even better one of those diehrrea choclates and eat some, oh just make sure to take some Pepto Bismol to your match

On a serious note you really cant lose ten pounds in 5-7 days its way to much and if you manage to good luck, you probably wont be able to lift your gloves up. Later

okay, speaking as someone who has cut that much weight and more in short amounts of time i'll tell you how.

Hopefully weigh in is on a different day than the match, or you will have several hours before you must compete.

        1. Use a diretic and don't drink anything until after weigh in.

        2. before weigh in get into a tub of water that is as hot as you can stand it. and then cover the tub with a board to trap the heat in. Sit in their keeping the water hot. Caution. do not pass out or do this without someone to check on you as this could lead to death or brain damage if you became too weak to get out of the water.

        3. Atkins diet. in one week you may be able to cut ten pounds. Specifically the fast fat diet. You can find info on it on his website. The diet sucks but you could probably even cut more than 10 so you might be able to adjust it a bit.

        4. Get a solar suit (vinyl workout suit) and then some extra layers. run and jump rope. (i lost 10 lbs in a half an hour when i did not make weight for a wrestling tournement. IT worked for making weight but I had to strip. I also had to towel off so that I made weight.

mostly dehydration is the only way to cut wieght that fast. It is a two edge sword. You may make weight and then be weak and sluggish. Or you may do all the work and still miss weight.

You might get lucky and your oppenent is in the same predicament so you might both end up being weak and sluggish.

              loose wight.

I had to do this shit all the time in wrestling.

Don't eat any thing, drink only coffee so you pee all your water out. Wear plastics so you sweat every thing out. Then get your ass kicked, because your dehydraded and weak!

that's what made me decide to quite wrestling. Making weight seemed silly.

I learned my lesson when I made weight in the situation I spoke of above. My coach didn't think I could do it so he got me moved to a higher weight class and couldn't get me back in the lower class. So I was screwed. I was at 119 and was competing against people at 124. So not only was I weak as all hell and worn out I was in the higher weight class. I got killed.

I have cut weight for fights before by sweating using the sauna suit. I cut down about 8 or 9 pounds. After I weighed in (in one fight), drank a ton of water and ate, a couple hours later I fought and KO'd my opponent. I'm nervous that I may not be able to cut a full ten pounds. After the weigh in, however, I will be able to eat and drink and recover before the match

Dude, you have about a week. You still have time man. For the next couple of days, make lettuce and grape fruit your main dishes (don't get too stingy on the protein or you'll pay dearly.) The day before the fight, cut back on your water consumption big time, I'm talking sparingly. Then get in some sweats and make weight. If you do it the right way, you can lose about 5-6 pounds with your "diet", then cut the rest by running and jumping rope. The day before the weigh-in, try to eat as little as possible, same thing for the day of the weigh-in. Then after making your weight go rest and drink your gatorade. Good luck man.

Creatine will cause your muscles to retain water. That, along with a lot of fluids, will re-hydrate you within a 24 hour period.

Very low carb, lots of cardio to cause sweating, water and some sodium restriction should cause alot of weight loss through glycogen and water depletion.

Be very careful, though, this could be dangerous depending on what extent you do this.

Make sure you rehydrate after the weigh in: creatine, lots of water, lots of complex carbs

Start cutting back on your carbs. That'll easily drop a few pounds off of you. Keep the protein intake up, other wise you'll lose the good weight...

As far as diruetics go, if you must, use Dandelion pills. You can get them at most vitamin stores. They're better then most everything else because it actually replenishes lost nutrients(potassium, I believe...I'll check my sources here soon.)

Keep up your cardio, that's always good....

After the weigh in, drink a bottle or 2 of pedialyte. You can get that at the baby section of most grocery stores. It's for dehydrated babies, it's good stuff.

start eating and drinking slowly after the weigh in, as your body starts to feel better. If you've had to not eat or drink for an extended period, start slowly. avoid the cold drinks at first, room temperature will agree with your stomach a bit better.
I'm hoping your weigh in is either early in the day, or the day before. This'll give you more time to recuperate.

Also, keep this in mind-thousands upon thousands of fighters do this on a regular basis. I've cut weight for just about all of my fights, and just about every NakMuayThai in Thailand cuts weight.

And tell us all how the fight goes!

Seriously, I went right from football into wrestling. Wrestling was already a week or two into practice. I had a week before the first match. Anyone who has wrestled knows it takes a whole different level of conditioning then a lot of other sports football included. I had a week to get in shape and drop about 10-12 pounds.

My football weight was 185 My wrestling weight 172 (I believe this is where it starts at the beginning of the season then toward the end it's 178. Not easy to do In high school with no body fat, unlike now.

Then when big tounaments were coming up and seeding was important- we would start changing weights so we wouldn't take loses in weight class. I always had to drop to the 168 lb or what ever the next weight class down was.

Then summer season it would start all over again. I had a hell of time getting my weight back up for foorball.

I think this totally destroyed my matabolism. Now I have a hell of time keeping the fat off regardless how much or how hard I work out.

Nah. As you grow older you have a harder time getting the fat of anyway. And any improvements in any type of fitness take longer to come as well.

Oh how I'd like to be 20 again.
