When you are training your students in preparation for the Apprentice Instructor test, do you have them practice any drills in addition to the ones that you already mentioned, for entering into the clinch (specifically for this test)? Do you have any advice or suggestions that you can pass along?

Apprentice Instructor Test?
I don't currently have any students ready for that. I haven't put together an exam for it either, because none of my students are ready for that. I'm currently focusing on getting my students to "take the plunge" and step into the ring this Fall.

I like the clinch because it teaches you to be able to fight close up and gives you an advantage for controlling opponent and throwing powerful knees to head, body and ribs.
The clinch is also great because it can be turned into a choke technique by pushing opponents head down while in close and bringing one arm over opponents head and grabbing other hand under his throat and then applied by pulling up and arching your back.
Another great thing about clinch is it can give you a chance to use cross and downward elbow strikes on person's face and to the temple.
Being in Pankration, clinche is very important when starting fight from stand up,and your objective is to bring your opponent to ground. It gives you the chance to use knees, elbows and also to pull your opponent to ground or to get to his back to apply a choke.
I like the clinche as long as I am not the one being put into the clinche.Last edited by MuayThaiFighter; 08-19-2003, 03:33 AM.

I'm currently mixing BJJ with the MT I've learned over the years, and I've really learned the value of closing the distance in standup fighting. I believe very strongly that something Khun Kao said early on is so important in the standup game: you must be of the mindset that your opponent *will not* dominate you in a clinch! That mentality will really benefit you!
It's so nice to see forums such as this where people offer their wisdom and help one another. I've learned so much here and been able to apply it to my own studies. Thanks, guys!
