I am a female that's interested in kickboxing...but I have no idea where to start...timing and money is not at its best right now so lessons are out of the question for now...but would it be stupid to buy a punching bag now even if I don't know how to puch and kick properly? Should I buy a punching bag or wait to get lessons first...and to buy a punching bag...what weight, size structure is better?...should I go for a hanging or upright, used or new, 60 pounds or 100, gloves or bare hands? I really don't know much...please help

By a kickboxing book/video that teaches basic techniques. Check out your local book store or visit ringside.com
Practice technique from the book/video for a month without a partner or without a bag. Once you feel that your technique matches what the book/video is showing you, then I'd consider buying maybe a used 70lb 'banana' bag. Its rather long so you can punch and kick at all ranges. Be strict with your technique, loose with your body and go for light, rapid and quick mentality versus one punch KO mentality.
I recommend using 8-12 oz boxing gloves.

Take your time get your technique down and don't rush through anything.
Keep in mind you can learn to perform techniques from a video and work on conditioning and such from the comfort of your own home, but it does not gurantee that you will be able to perform under pressure and against different types of training partners.
Spontaneous, live sparring under a coaches watchfull eye teaches you rhythm, reflexes, distancing, courage and toughness under pressure.
