Here's a little tip I can give you. It's called Lines of Attacks.

      Lines of Attack

      Table A

      1) Hand Hand Hand
      2) Hand Hand Foot
      3) Hand Foot Hand
      4) Hand Foot Foot
      5) Foot Hand Hand
      6) Foot Hand Foot
      7) Foot Foot Hand
      8) Foot Foot Foot

      Table B

      A) High High High
      B) High High Low
      C) High Low High
      D) High Low Low
      E) Low High High
      F) Low High Low
      G) Low Low High
      H) Low Low Low

      Table C

      FFF Fast Fast Fast
      SFF Slow Fast Fast
      SSF Slow Slow Fast
      FSF Fast Slow Fast

      Table D

      ABC: Attack by Combination
      HIA: Hand Immobilization Attack
      PIA: Progressive Indirect Attack

      Table E

      Hit Hit Hit
      Hit Feint Hit
      Feint Hit Hit
      Feint Feint Hit

Make up your own combos.Remember each strike should flow in another one and leave you well-protected.

      Example.
      4C-SSF-Feint/Feint/Hit

Fake jab to nose - fake low round kick - High rear Thai round kick
      Slow Slow Fast

Drill these combos and try to change the strikes:instead of fake low round kick do a low side kick etc...
Then try to find how to block, evade and counter this combo, drill it on the bag, focus gloves etc... be creative.

          Think for yourself

I think you missed the point your instructor wished to make. From the first day in class you have been working the most important tool in your inventory, or you should have been anyway, which is your mind. In muay Thai we call it the 9th weapon. But it is the most important, and you should practice using it, because none of us will be with you when some clown on the street jumps you, or when you are getting pounded in the corner and the noise is too much for you to hear your cornerman. Just remember there is no wrong, it is just a drill. Now, it is just a drill...but maybe not tomorrow night. If your life is on the line you will have to use your mind or lose your life. And you will probably need more than 3 combinations.
