  • Is this true?

    I heard Muay Thai was hard on the body. Is this true? and if it is how is it harder on the body?

        yes it is hard on the body. some peoples build let them handle it better than others. the reason it's hard is the techs. used and the training itself. there is a lot of banging in mt, and in traditional mt your willing to take to give better.

          Don't think you can train 1 year of Muay Thai without any bruise, and even fracture of a limb (if you're really not lucky).The techs are hard:elbows,knees,kicks but the training involving drills,sparring,aerobic training,weightlifting (if you're serious about it),it's really tough.

              My shins used to get lumps all over them with big purple bruises, but now they are rather hard and insensitive. I've also had a pretty badly bruised rib from being kneed in the clinch, and slight headaches from punches. You can't spar hard all of the time....well at least I can't.

              The good thing is that you develop mental toughness. You think its physical toughness, but after sparring against more experienced fighters you realize its all in your head. You get ok with guys raining punches on you because you keep moving side to side, slipping, covering and counterpunching; then you learn when to launch your own flurry and set up for openings.

              It depends on if you spar or not.

                Define being hard on the body.

                If kicking pads,and heavy bags full force with shins,punching without pulling back on punches,giving as well as recieving hard blows to head and body,getting good at using knees to defend yourself,and neck wrestling from stand up sounds tough then I guess it is hard on your body.

                If our exercises like skipping,leap frogs,running,situps(sometimes with partner and medicine ball),push ups,leg raises,sicorrs cross overs,doing 3, 5 minute rounds of hitting focus minutes,3 sets of 2 minute rounds of squats,3 sets of 50 half push ups,100 full push ups,etc.seem tough and painful then MuayThai could sound hard on your body.

                When I first started MuayThai training I found it hard on my body and would get bruised despite previous 12yrs.of karate.

                Kicking with shins is hard but if practiced properly and done several times,it is just a matter of getting used to it.
