Hey Bri, when i move into my new house and buy a bucket then maybe in time i will challenge you............except i first need some sperm? (that english stuff never works).
I did muay thai for 5 years and have done SanShou for 3 years and find the throws to be seriously disabling in a real encounter and also prefer a highly developed side kick rather than the thai round house, why?, direct linear, far more difficult to see coming than the circular roundhouse.
Plus, I reckon the shin conditioning is stupid and unhealthy. Also, on the street who would be dumb enough to clinch someone which would blind you to a handheld knife coming in below.
I love SanShou & seriously hope it gets the far better recognition that it deserves. Reading thru so many posts on here about how ""muay thai kicks all ass forever"" suggests to me a very easily led race of peeps, until you learn some of the far cleverer stuff that SS has to offer, don't comment.
Finally, look at how vulnerable a MT fighter is when he is on the ground, you know, when you see the referee stand in to protect etc... baloney Muay Thai.......................Muay thai is for fa8gots
Comparing styles to prove which is superior is a pissing contest.
Any experienced MA ist knows that there are fighters from every style that are good at what they do. When it comes to style vs. style competition like the famous Muay Thai vs. Sanda or Sanda vs. boxing, its merely an exhibition to showcase style differences.
San da fighters are known for their deceptive sidekicks and slamming throws. Against muay thai fighters they either win by points or incapacitating the opponent by slamming him into the mat.
Muay thai fighers are known for their exceptionally hard kicks, knees and elbows. When they win against San da fighters, its by KO.
"...Don't worry. When you are in the ring, you're all by yourself. No one can help you. So, all you can do is fight. So fight! Don't back down. Like in life, no one is going to live your life. So, no one is going to fight your fight for you. Muaythai is not winning or being better than the other guy. It is learning to lose before winning and to give from your heart before receiving. In muaythai, you always win and lose. So, don't worry. (Smile)..."
"...MT is a subset of the traditional Thai arts, hence, a lot of the original grappling, weapons, etc. have been removed..."
Ok I tend to disagree to some point here, Muay Boran is literally Ancient Boxing, Boran meaning ancient. This style of Muay Thai (Muay Thai actually means free boxing, Thai meaning Free so Thailand literally means "the land of free")
The art which is practiced every day in the camps of Thailand is Muay Thai, each and every practitioner is taught Muay Thai to its fullest, unless of course they have bad teachers. Muay Thai is soaked in tradition, the weapons side of Muay Thai, almost all Thai masters will know some part of Krabi-Krabong, is still taught everywhere. The art that is used in the ring is still the ancient art of Muay Chao Chur with only the illegal techniques not being allowed. What you see in the boxing ring is that ancient art of Muay Thai with only the death risk being lowered considerably, in other words the really nasty techniques made illegal.
When I was training there I had one teacher, ex-champion, teach me the ring art, movement in the ring, and drilled me constantly with techniques.... another Thai was showing me leg breaking and joint dislocationg techniques, grabs that are done with a non-gloved hand etc, between the two styles there was not much of a difference, in fact the only diffference I experienced was the use of really damaging techniques on one side and then the use of damaging techniques on the other, even then there isnt much of a difference.

Lemme just explain something here, if you drill the roundhouse every day for say 2 hours a day, nothing but kick kick kicking!!! 2 hours every day then eventually you are going to be able to kick like you punch. I was there, I still am but not as good as when I was being drilled in Thailand (will be back again so just a matter of time) you get to the point where you can easily raise your leg for a smashing roundhouse with the same speed and accuracy of a punch! no shit, what I am saying here is that you didnt fully develop your roundhouse, I am not saying you cant roundhouse but I am saying if you find it to be not so practical then obviously you havnt got something right....
...I was in a night club (true story) and a french guy who trained with us, big mouth etc and loved women, was chasing after a young thai lady but only this young thai lady had a boyfriend who happend to be some kind of street gangster, the french guy got knocked out in this night club with a roundhouse kick to the head! very quickly and with very limited space, my point is, if you can train your legs to react like your hands then there is no reason why you cant use your legs like you can use your hands, as for having the felixability to kick high cold thats basicly down to conditioning, its all possible so it all makes the thai roundhouse quite effective as a self-defence tool in a street encounter.
as for the which is better arguement, I dont know but I sure as hell love Muay Thai.

roundhouse travels in a circlular motion, side kick travels in a straight line....simple physics.....

simple physics yes but its possible to kick like you punch, in other words its possible to kick fast, so fast as to outkick a side kick! side kick is rarely used in muay thai, there are guys who can double kick so fast its like one kick! so fast that by the time most have one kick out he has had 2, and thats with power.
You guys are missing the boat! Who gives a flying fig newton if MT or Sanshou is "better." In a street fight only a moron brings a roundhouse kick to a gun fight. As far as ring sports go, both are pretty good, so is western boxing for that matter. If you train hard and fight to win you will be successful. I wonder how many of you "theorists" actually have any f@#&ing ring experience anyways...I thought so..
BTW, I forgot which dude made the comment about getting his salad tossed in the joint, only punks take it in the rump, and if you can take care of business like a man nobody gets to call you a "bitch"...

I have a boxing record of 47/6/0 (21), as an amateur. Never fought pro. I have only had some sparring/"smokers" in MT but I can still walk...if that means anything. BTW I fought at 175-178# in boxing.
Ive done both Muay Thai and Sanshou, They are not that different however in my opinion the way we train in Muay Thai is better for faster development, and more power.

I've got major respect for muay thai and san da.
San Da is still developing, but it's effective. They're bringing KO's out of the woodworks in the Thailand v China (that's what it really is) matches. In the last meet China won 3 to Thai's 2. One Thai was KO'd and sent to the hospital. San Da is more than capable of supplying KO's too; not just points. But yeah, MT is known for it's KO's, noone can deny that.
