I have a question you speak of snapping at the hips but I was in the assumption that that kicks use the hips to drive the kick in, i.e. the hip pulls the leg forward and at the moment of the kick is almost inline with the kick

how big is the clip, if it isn't too big, you could send it to me and I put it temporary online and post the link to it
If you have some homepagespace where you can dump it you can do it yourself

That's a good idea, I'll put it on my school website along with a bunch of other interesting muay thai videos and put the links here. I'll make a new thread when I get the videos up.

The hips do drive the kick in... ok let me explain this way... I see alot of begginers swing their leg fast but there hip doesn't turn over or doesn't turn over very fast so they lack alot of impact/penetrating power. When you snap the hip into your kick lightning fast you get so much more power, faster hip snap equals more power. Now for snapping your hip out again... you do follow through with your hip but not overexageratted to the point of pushing. Snap it in, penetrate and then snap it out.

One of the videos shows a fighter visciously kicking his opponent in the legs 2 times with very fast hip snap and it looks great. You can really see the power.

oops my mistake confused snapping with bending because a snapkick is made with the knee bending and stretching

Did you know that most Ma use ( well are supposed to) this snapaction of the hip?
Yoseikan budo is for a big extent build around it
the same motion can be found in a heelkick as in a uchi mata throw from judo ( man how do I remember this stuff from one seminar 15 years ago)
I think BL used it in his 1 and 3 inch powerpunch
It is universal but a lot of MA's have watered down, because people weren't subtle enough to even see the snap action

e.g. in traditional forms tournaments the style that still use the fast and subtle hip movements do not score the one with large one way movements ( no snap) do score

This is correct if you are talking about Thai Fighters.

Muay Thai fighters use their hips (as do all arts)to throw a kick but we don't snap our kicks at contact we go right through with our kicks.

Karate people seem to snap their kicks which is useless but it's their preference so that is all that matters I guess where as with Thai fighters we never snap or pull back our kicks or punches.

You'll never see a Muay Thai person pull his punches or kicks at contact of shields or focus mitts,we all drive our technique straight through the shields.
